The Director of User Experience is responsible for the overall quality, delivery, vision, direction, efficiency and management of Refinery?s user experience (UX) discipline and services. You will bear ultimate responsibility and accountability for all UX deliverables and the process by which we deliver our UX services profitably. With your strong understanding of the competitive landscape, you will consult with existing and potential clients regarding their online marketing and eBusiness projects.

You will be responsible for using your knowledge and expertise in meeting website and application users? needs to ensure that we continue to exceed client expectations with our usable solutions.

 

You will be Refinery?s UX leader internally as you build, mentor and manage a team of user experience architects (UXAs) with a diverse set of skills, abilities and experience. You will also be Refinery?s UX leader externally taking responsibility for representing and communicating Refinery?s UX and business vision, philosophy, methodology and capabilities to current and potential clients, our industry and the general public, You will work closely with the Executive team to develop and position our UX services as part of Refinery?s overall offering.

As a key member of our Management team, you will provide strategic and tactical thinking as well as broad business insight and will take a leadership role in developing the UX strategies to support the long-term growth of the business. The Director of User Experience will use expertise in management and website and application user centered design methodology to guide the UXAs in the fundamental aspects of their delivery.

 

Qualified candidates will have the following skillset:

 

?  Masters Degree in Human Factors, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Cognitive Psychology or related field desired 

?  PhD in Human Factors, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Cognitive Psychology or related field a plus

?  Extensive (>10 years) experience in the following user-centered design areas: user research (contextual inquiry, field studies, ethnographic interviewing, cognitive walkthroughs, online surveying tools, persona development) information architecture (taxonomy development, content hierarchy) interface/interaction design usability testing (card-sorting, task-based usability testing

?  7-10 years experience managing teams, at least half of that time in the interactive space

?  5+ years hands-on experience developing user-centric designs and information

?  Architectures for web and interactive applications is desired

?  4+ years experience leading UX initiatives for large, consumer-oriented web sites

?  Published and presented at conferences on the topics of user research, information architecture, interaction/interface design, usability testing.
