To analyze user requirements, procedures, and problems to automate processing or improve existing computer Systems. Essential Duties: Strong knowledge of JAVA, WebSphere, and SQL Server experience required, providing ability to develop and change complex programs.


1. Java Standard Tag libraries (JSTL) experience
2. Spring Framework
3. Exposure to, and particpation in, open-source java projects (such as Jakarta or SourceForge projects)
4. Websphere Application Server (v. 4.x or 5.x)
5. Orion Application Server (v.2.x)
6. JDBC and SQL
7. Hibernate O/R persistence framework
8. Some type of Portal experience (Plumtree a plus, but not required)
9. Some type of content management experience (Gauss a plus, but not required)
10. UNIX command-line skills


4+ years of general Java experience
2+ years with Java servlets
CVS for version controls
Exlipse IDE and/or Websphere Application Developer
General Model-View-Controller (MVC) concepts
Struts 1.1+ as an MVC framework
Ant and/or Maven for build management (Maven preferred)
JUnit for unit tests
HTML + JavaScript (XHTML preferred

 

 

 Confers with personnel from organizational units involved to analyze current operational procedures, identify problems, and learn specific input and output requirements such as forms of data input, how data is to be summarized, and formats for reports. Ability to develop and test complex computer programs with little assistance or direction. Writes detailed technical specifications required to develop or modify computer system. Review computer system capabilities, workflow, and scheduling limitations to determine if requested program or program change is possible within existing system. Studies existing information-processing Systems to evaluate effectiveness and develops new Systems to improve production or workflow as required. Prepare workflow charts and diagrams to specify in detail operations to be performed by equipment and computer programs and operations to be performed by personnel in system. Conduct studies pertaining to development of new information Systems to meet current and projected needs. Prepare and present to Information Service?s management the Project Proposal Document. Applies System upgrades and corrects errors to maintain system after implementation. Assist Computer Programmer in resolution of work problems related to flow charts, project specifications, or programming. Travel to various locations as needed. Participate in on-call rotation. Have the ability to enter data for up to 6 hours, sit for extended periods of time and view computer screen for up to eight (8) hours at a time. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Possess IT or business related two or four year college degree, or six years of experience in a large-scale Information Services environment. Must possess above average problem solving skills, the ability to analyze and document problems and requirements that are understandable at all levels. Have a working knowledge of Data Center procedures and schedules, Turnover Control procedures (i.e. Changeman), Programming productivity tools (i.e. FileAid), enter large volumes of data into computer system, and have a working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software.
