AOL's X-Drive service, which is part of the AOL Digital Services organization, has a reputation for being the premier "Internet-based hard drive", allowing subscribers to store, access, share, and backup their files online.

 

Dramatic increases in disk storage capacity and a rapid decline in costs have enabled the introduction of ground breaking products like the iPod and Tivo.  This trend, coupled with ubiquitous broadband access is now making it possible to separate the disk drive from the computer and place it in the network.  Now, your most valued digital assets ? pictures, video, music, and documents ? can be accessed from anywhere, easily shared with others, and securely backed up and preserved.

 

Opportunity: 

 

We're currently seeking a Senior Designer that can bring the service to the next level by shepherding a new design for the service through from concept to launch. Once launched, the position will be responsible for designing and producing a visual program for marketing the service and be responsible for producing all marketing inventory. This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned and ambitious designer who wants to have involvement in all aspects of an internet service, including concept, prototyping, market research, implementation, marketing, and adaptive consumer messaging. 

 

Responsibilities:

 

The Senior Designer will work with external design agencies, development teams, marketing leaders, and business stakeholders to help shape and execute a new conceptual framework for the product. They'll work on design concepts that will be used as focus group exhibits, and they'll assist in translating user testing into clearly focused design direction. During the production process they will use their impeccable user interface design skills,  their keen understanding of branding and visual design principals, and their experience creating web-based applications to create service models that eclipse those offered by the competition. Because the candidate will work on creating forward-thinking design prototypes, producing and executing products in the development pipeline, and creating on-line marketing collateral to support these products, they must have the ability to work fast and smart. While the Senior Designer will have key "clients" in the business unit, they will also be part of a small, elite, and highly focused design studio whose role is to support a large segment of AOL's business. 

 

The ideal candidate will have:This person must be detail oriented, organized, and multi-skilled in various aspects of visual design, with a portfolio that demonstrates a range of skills -- which preferably includes iconography, branding systems, styleguide creation, user interface development, and interaction modeling. The position requires a high level of artistic talent coupled with an equally high level of marketing acumen. They'll be responsible for planning and executing projects independently, or collaborating with other creative staff, vendors and freelancers -- frequently in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment. Preferably, the candidate should have a thorough knowledge and solid skills in web-based application design. Candidate also should have a strong design portfolio that clearly reflects an enlightened understanding of fundamental user interface design techniques and development processes, ideally in relation to application (and not just web) design. Requirements include 4-6 years of experience and a proven track record of innovative design, reflected either in client or personal design work. A degree in Fine Arts or Graphic Design is preferred.

 

Skills Required:Expert ability to develop well conceived and innovative marketing material (banners, pop-ups, etc) that addresses business objectives in fresh and inventive ways. Proactive creativity when deadlines are distant, and focused, enthusiastic intensity when deadlines are near.Ability to effectively lead junior creative staff members, vendors, and freelancers. Providing guidance and mentorship.Good conceptual and problem solving skills..Excellent design skills accompanied by the ability to guide and evaluate, and if necessary, redirect creative development.Ability to communicate effectively with creative and project management staff, engendering trust and respect.Great presentation skills.
