Detention Officer

This is an entry-level position with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office involving the care, safety, order and discipline of a large inmate population.  Officers will be assigned to detention centers where they will work 86 hours every pay period.  Duties include: control, counseling and transporting of inmates within the confines of the unit.  Positions also require ability to deal with wide variety of persons in the most challenging environments and situations; the ability to acclimate to an environment of advancing technology with automated controls supported by computer software that requires computer literacy; and ability to meet training and testing performance levels mandated by the NC Sheriffs' Education. & Training. Standards. Rotating shift work is required.

 

Have a High School diploma or GED

Be at least 21 years old

Have a valid drivers license

Be a United States Citizen

Be of good moral character

Meet a physical fitness requirement
