Put your professional security dispatching skills to work with Hennepin County. The Security Division of Hennepin County Property Services is a professional, career-oriented operation responsible for providing security for county facilities.

In addition to salary, shift differential of $0.70 per hour between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. is paid and a uniform allowance is provided. Benefits include paid vacation, sick leave, holiday leave or premiums, employee life and health insurance (reduced cost family coverage also available) and dental insurance.

Security Dispatchers perform work of routine difficulty in the operation of a central alarm station using computers and various communications equipment, initiating proper response for emergency and non-emergency situations. This full-time position will include days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Shifts are bid on an annual basis.

Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and have no adult felony convictions, and must supply background data as requested. To be eligible for hire candidates must successfully complete an in-depth criminal history and background investigation, along with a comprehensive psychological evaluation, physical examination, and drug test, prior to employment.

The primary duties and responsibilities for this position include:Operate and monitor a wide range of moderately complex computer driven equipment, including systems for life/safety, security alarm, closed circuit television and building automation. Receive emergency and non-emergency calls for security service and medical assistance. Dispatch security officers or other personnel using two-way radio or telephone. Prioritize calls and initiate appropriate action based on incident type and importance. Query callers to obtain detailed incident information, record duties and activities. Contact police, fire, and ambulance in emergency situations and coordinate proper response. Generate reports, maintain records, and perform data entry functions. Operate multi-line telephone system. Notify appropriate managers or supervisors of critical conditions on a 24-hour basis.

To be effective in this position you must have:Two years of public safety dispatching or security dispatching experience OR Completion of an approved 911/Dispatch Certificate Program (this certificate program is no longer available in the State of Minnesota) OR Two years experience as a first responder (police officer, fire fighter, emergency medical technician, or paramedic) OR An approved equivalent combination of training and experience. Knowledge of dispatching policies and procedures relative to security or law enforcement. Knowledge of computer systems, multi-line telephones and related electronics. Ability to use sound judgment and work effectively and cooperatively with others in stressful situations. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; solicit pertinent information from potentially emotional callers and relay complex facts accurately and concisely; coordinate multiple assignments and direct others to locations and tasks; make immediate, appropriate, independent decisions; work independently with minimal supervision and accurately record information and activity. Ability to stay alert during periods of inactivity
