Security Guard and Location Safety

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Location Safety & Security shifts will provide 24 hours a day, 7 days per week coverage. Most shifts may vary in starting and ending times. Flexibility in all aspects of their job responsibilities and in a shift scheduling rotation will be required. In general the shifts will include day, mid-afternoon, and evening.

There will be a wide variety of miscellaneous responsibilities and duties to ensure location safety & security personnel are productive throughout their assigned shift. These may include but are not limited to: porter duties, bell services, front desk, resident coordinator, emergency equipment upkeep, safety and environmental, etc.

Location safety & security personnel must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening and random drug screenings during employment. They might be asked to complete other training during the season, as needed, in regards to their assigned duties and responsibilities. The staff members might be asked if they are interested in volunteering for the National Park Service Structural Fire Department as collateral duty.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports directly to the Location Manager and Safety & Security Manager.

RESPONSIBLITIES:

1. Patrol buildings and grounds to observe and identify potential security and safety risks or undesirable conditions such as fires, theft and vandalism. Inspects doors windows and locks in designated areas to determine level of security; ensure that only authorized personnel are present in back-of-the-house areas or restricted areas.
2. Performs protective and enforcement functions in a courteous and restrained manner while coping with emergencies, undesired conduct, disturbances and threats to life and property to maintain a safe and secure environment.
3. Demonstrate knowledge of the location and departmental emergency action and evacuation plans.
4. Demonstrate knowledge in the location of all fire extinguishing equipment, gas shut-off valves and electrical main disconnects.
5. Demonstrate knowledge of Xanterra Parks & Resorts? emergency medical notification procedures.
6. Demonstrate knowledge of the departmental and location power outage plans.
7. To immediately notify the location manager on duty of any serious concerns, hazards or unusual conditions.
8. Respond to emergency calls for assistance with controlling disorderly or combative employees or guests, first aid, fire, or evacuation, etc.
9. To exercise sound judgment and the use of available information to resolve issues and in taking appropriate action when dealing with employees and employee housing issues.
10. Ability to demonstrate the use of positive reinforcement strategies and other appropriate techniques to assist in maintaining proper behavior or conduct within the community living environment.
11. Investigate incidents of unusual circumstances or disturbances reported by staff, off-duty employees, guests or visitors. Assist with departmental accident or incident investigations.
12. Prepare accurate and detailed written reports documenting investigative steps and the results, as well as all other shift activities and employee relations problems for the Location Manager and Safety & Security Manager.
13. In the event of emergency, maintains order and safety of personnel; serves as a liaison with emergency response unit(s).
14. May serve as a liaison with emergency response teams on mutual problems.
15. Sounds alarm in case of fire and calls 911 for all emergencies or difficulties with unauthorized persons.
16. Will serve as an escort for guests or employees.
17. To serve as location safety and environmental contact, which includes conducting: dormitory fire/life safety inspections; location safety tailgate meetings; oversight of the location Accident Reduction Incentive Program; audits department safety training records and safety tailgate meetings; Mid-Season Arrival Safety Training (MAST) and ensuring proper set up of training room and equipment; follow-up with departments to ensure correction of deficiencies cited on formal Risk Management inspection reports and written documentation of these corrections have been forwarded to Risk Management; makes recommendations on improving location safety and security measures and processes.
18. Must be conscious of the need to maintain confidentiality and adhere to company values at all times.
19. Performs other duties as assigned.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND CRITERIA:

1. Must be at least 21 years of age.
2. Must possess a valid and current driver?s license at the time of employment and must be maintained during employment.
3. Must not have been convicted of, pled guilty or no contest to: a felony in any jurisdiction; a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, acts of dishonesty or acts against government authority, including the use and/or possession of a controlled substance within seven years; any crime in any jurisdiction involving sale, delivery, or manufacture of a controlled substance.
4. Must not have been declared by any court to be incompetent by reason of mental disease or defect that has not been removed or expunged.
5. Must submit two sets of classifiable fingerprints and two passport sized photos, along with applicant?s name, address, date of birth, Social Security Number, citizenship status, and a statement of conviction of crimes in order to conduct a state criminal records check, and an FBI criminal history check, prior to employment.
6. Must furnish all information about prior employment.
7. Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening.
8. Must have the ability to be bonded.
9. Must possess strong interpersonal, oral communication, and problem solving skills.
10. Must demonstrate maturity, a professional demeanor, good judgment, diplomacy, and sound conflict/crisis intervention skills for managing employee or guest complaints.
11. Requires the ability to communicate professionally and effectively with a diverse population of employees and guests.
12. Must maintain positive employee relations and morale whenever possible by practicing sound leadership and human relations principles to promote teamwork at all times.
13. Must have the ability to remain objective while listening to conflicting perspectives.
14. Must set a good example in attitude and display of personal actions at all times.
15. Must have strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple, high priority projects with keen attention to detail.
16. Requires knowledge of and the ability to effectively utilize two-way radio communications.
17. Requires good penmanship and the ability to write clear, concise, and detailed reports.
18. Must acquire knowledge, during initial training, of the layout of the assigned property including Xanterra land assignments. Must be knowledgeable with the layout of all Xanterra-assigned buildings on the property as well as all employee- housing areas. This includes location of offices, mechanical rooms, building exits, fire extinguishing equipment, etc.
19. Must be able to spend majority of time on foot patrol, walking, climbing stairs of the interior and perimeter of the hotel, dormitories and other Xanterra assigned buildings on location. Must be able to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop or kneel and continuously perform essential job functions for duration of shift.
20. Excellent hearing and visual ability required for observing and detecting signs of emergency situations.
21. Must be able to grasp, lift and/or carry or otherwise move goods weighing a maximum of 300 lbs. Sufficient manual dexterity in hands.
22. Must acquire CPR, first aid and AED certifications.
23. Must be flexible with scheduling and willing to work rotating shifts with the ability to be on-call beyond scheduled shift and on weekends and holidays.
24. Upon arrival in Yellowstone, position might require National Park Service (NPS) training in the following topics: Roles and Responsibilities of the Security Officer (4 hrs); Crime Scene Protection (1hr); Victim and Witness Handling (2 hrs); History of Yellowstone National Park and the concessions within the Park (1hr); Federal Laws and Regulations, Wyoming Laws and Liability (4 hrs); Concessioner Policies and NPS Crime Reporting Requirements (2 hrs); Mediation/Conflict Resolution (4 hrs); Disasters and Emergencies (1 hr); Dynamics of Concession Employee Behavior (2 hrs); Examination (1 hr).
25. Ability to adhere to Company and Risk Management/Security Department policies and procedures, codes and standards of conduct, ethics, attendance, punctuality and appearance.
26. Must have the proven ability to effectively perform duties in highly stressful or crisis situations and work under pressure without the loss of composure.

2. To take appropriate action to secure or protect employee, guest, or Company property.
3. May contact law enforcement personnel as authorized by the Location Manager or Safety & Security Manager.
