Assistant Counsel : ERISA

The position is located in Northbrook, IL.

 

The purpose of the department is to provide legal risk management services to the enterprise.

 

The scope of this job is to provide legal services on a wide range of ERISA and related employee benefit and executive compensation issues to internal human resources, senior management and other client areas throughout the Company.

 

The individual will be responsible for:

 

1. Legal services and advice on issues concerning qualified pension, profit-sharing, 401(k) and ESOP plans; health and welfare benefit plans; non-qualified supplemental retirement plans; deferred compensation plans and other executive compensation plans, including cash and equity incentive plans.

2.  Research and analysis of proposed and existing ERISA, tax and securities laws, as well as related legislation and guidance affecting the Company's benefit plans and advising clients accordingly.

3. Drafting plan documents and regulatory disclosures including participant communications.

4. Providing legal advice on corporate governance issues related to benefit and compensation plans.

5. Retaining and directing outside counsel, as required.

 

The skills required are:

 

1. Demonstrated knowledge of ERISA and tax laws and related regulations (basic knowledge of securities laws applicable to employee benefits is a plus).

Experience Required:

3-5 years of practicing law in the Benefits field either private practice or in-house

 

Computer Proficiency:

Microsoft Office products

 

Education:

Masters/MBA - Preferred

Major preference: JD required
