THE POSITION. Child Support staff, in a law office environment, work closely with the four Child Support Attorneys within the department. Child Support Officers locate obligor, establish paternity, collect funds from parents obligated to support their children and oversee the distribution of the funds according to current laws and regulations.

IDEAL CANDIDATE. The ideal candidate has a college degree and strong mathematical and analytical skills in order to calculate child support and monitor payments, initiate legal action, and maintain a narrative record of all case activity in the automated child support system. The ideal candidate also possesses excellent interpersonal and written communication skills to conduct interviews and initiate correspondence with custodial parties and obligors, establish court orders for payment of child support and conduct financial investigations.

APPLICATION/EXAMINATION. Anyone may apply. A supplemental application form must be submitted in addition to our regular employment application form. A screening committee will select those applicants whose education and experience appear to best meet the needs of the position, based on the information provided by applicants on the application materials. Qualified applicants will be notified of the date, time and place of the examination. The examination will consist of a panel interview (weight: 100%) which may include a brief writing and/or performance exercise(s) given immediately before, during or after the interview. All examinations will be given in San Mateo County and applicants must participate at their own expense.
