Claims Manager

ALSTOM Power, Inc., a global leader and provider of power generation engineering, products, and services, is seeking a Claims Manager for its Turbo Machinery Department. This position is based at our Midlothian, VA location.

 Basic Job Description:

Claims Management includes processing and analyzing claims, assessing potential impact, researching historical data, previous settlements and external developments that may impact specific claims. It also encompasses negotiating settlements in concert with attorneys.

 

Perform broad contract assignments, including advanced level of document analysis and negotiation. Provide advice and counsel, and administer highly complex commercial elements of contracts from preparation to completion. Participate in pre-award negotiations and contract litigation, and recommend specific strategies based on experience and broad historical data. Ensure compliance with regulations, Company policy and objectives while promoting and maintaining good customer relations.

 

Typical duties/responsibilities for administration may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Minimize or eliminate potential problems by reviewing customer specifications and arranging contractual changes or other measures to effectively meet customer requirements. Examine new contracts for potential problems and negotiate resolutions that will be favorable to the Company while maintaining good customer relations. Lead contract-related special projects and coordinate associated activities.
Coordinate meetings and play a key role in resolving controversial issues. Provide counsel on legal and business implications of specific contracts, identity associated risks and liabilities and propose measures to protect the Company?s interests while maintaining customer satisfaction.
Lead or perform complex analyses and investigations. Develop plans, establish schedules, and coordinate activities of other staff members. Prepare and maintain information on such matters as customer profiles, economic conditions, competitive posture and business statistics, and provide related counsel to managers and other staff.
Prepare or arrange for timely preparation and control of documents, records, schedules, lists, and other materials required to properly administer contracts and comply with sound business practices and regulations.
Enforce contract compliance and ensure favorable return to the Company. Devise and implement innovative ways to improve the contract administration process, increase profitability, minimize liability and ensure customer satisfaction. Provide guidance to less experienced contract administrators.

 

Complexity of Tasks:

Requires thorough understanding of the Company?s operations, policies, and related legal matters. Requires exercising independent judgment to distinguish the line between limiting the Company?s liability and what is commercially acceptable, and to reach agreement with customers. Requires exceptional communication skills and judgment to make presentations, present arguments, lead complex negotiations, and influence decisions. Errors may significantly impact the Company?s reputation and customer relations, and result in financial losses.

 

Qualifications:
Bachelor?s degree in Business/Economics or law with 8-12 years of experience.
Some form of either academic or professional exposure to contractual and legal concepts through additional university training in the field of law, preferably in the US legal environment
