SUMMARY OF POSITION
Johns Manville is currently seeking qualified (1099) applicants for the position of Employment Law Attorney (Contract Position 3 to 6 months) to be located in Denver, CO.
The Litigation Group gives employment law advice and support to all JM business units as well as staff functions, and performs a wide variety of functions. We are looking for an experienced attorney who can ably interact with all levels of the business, from CEO to hourly plant workers. This position will advise and support all JM functions in Denver and all facility locations through-out the United States. Specific functions will include assisting and advising HR personnel, business leaders, and other division counsel in reaching desired goals and solutions in workplace and employee issues, and developing and delivering innovative, preventative training and compliance programs, including diversity training. This position may lend labor advice to our HR group as requested.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide advice regarding and employment matters to all business partners. Colorado Bar membership or application for membership required.
Provide advice/support in the following areas: Equal Opportunity and Employment Discrimination Laws, ADEA, ADA, Title VII, FMLA, etc.; wage and hours laws; Equal Pay Act; Fair Labor Standards Act; reductions in force; and other employment-related matters,
Representation of Johns Manville in defense of administrative charges before state and federal agencies, retaining local counsel as needed to assist and advise;
Provide day-to-day employment advice as needed.
This position will report to the Associate General Counsel for Litigation / Employment Law / Division Counsel (Roofing Systems). The position is expected to require 40 hours per week. This position is on a contract basis (1099) only and will require negotiation of terms and a suitable contract between the candidate and the company. We expect the initial term of the contract will be 3 - 6 months.
QUALIFICATIONS:
J.D. Degree from top law school
4 to 7 years of practical experience as employment law attorney in a top law firm or in-house
Experience in developing and delivering interesting seminars, workshops, and presentations to employee groups and management
Experience in handling employment disputes in litigation, including depositions, administrative hearings, arbitrations, and/or trials
Excellent oral and written communications skills
Demonstrated ability to multi-task and manage a varied case- and matter-load.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi-functional business team.
Travel may be required, but is not expected to exceed 10%
Enhanced Qualifications (preferred but not required)
Employee benefits law experience
NLRB and union grievance experience
labor negotiations experience
Six Sigma Green Belt certification
In-house experience
