Definition:
Under the direction of the Family Law Facilitator, this attorney level position provides services mandated by Family Code Section 10000-10012 which includes assisting the Senior Facilitator with the development, planning, implementation and administration of a family law program that provides services to self-represented litigants. This position facilitates and expedites family law proceedings related to all aspects of Family Law, Civil Harassment, and Domestic Violence.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
Incumbent will be responsible for assisting the Senior Facilitator with the operation of the Court?s Family Law Self Help program. Incumbent will also be responsible for the supervision of support staff and volunteers in the absence of the Senior Facilitator. Candidates may also be called upon to assist a Senior Attorney in the operation of the Self Help Legal Access Center.

Essential Duties: Representative Duties: Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
?Assists with the planning and implementing of family law programs for self represented litigants.
?Assists with the development and implementation of operational policies and procedures.
?Conducts workshops for self represented litigants.
?Develops and provides educational materials to litigants.
?Distributes necessary forms to litigants and assists with the completion of these court and judicial council forms.
?Oversees subordinate staff and volunteers.
?Identifies community resources related to family law programs and community-based services.
?Provides referrals to other court-services and outside agencies.
?Conducts settlement conferences for self-represented litigants.
?Assists the Family Law judicial officers in the preparation of orders, computation of child support, research on family law issues and other tasks as requested by the judicial officers.
?May also be required to assist a Senior Attorney in the Self Help Legal Access Center in providing educational materials to self-represented litigants and to provide assistance to self-represented litigants in completing forms in other civil matters such as guardianships, adoption, landlord-tenant and consumer law.
Judgment and Responsibility:
Incumbent receives general direction from the supervising Senior Attorney and Court Managing Attorney. Incumbents are expected to work autonomously following general guidelines within a broad range of policies and procedures. Incumbent may supervise other staff, including volunteers. Requires the exercise of good judgment to choose among possible actions often without clear precedent.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
Incumbent must have graduated from an accredited law school and be licensed by the State Bar of California.
Experience:
A minimum of three (3) years of civil law experience with emphasis in family law. Knowledge of court procedures is required.
Desirable:
Mediation training and experience with community-based programs.
Requirements:
Possession of a valid driver license and proof of liability insurance, as required by the State of California to perform the essential job functions of this position.

Standard office environment; vision sufficient to read a computer screen; manual dexterity, coordination and ability to use a computer keyboard frequently; occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds; ability to sit and work at a computer for long periods of time; some bending, stooping and/or squatting may be required; requires occasional exposure to dust; ability to communicate clearly in person and over the telephone, in court, and in small groups; with or without reasonable accommodation.

APPLICATION EVALUATION qualifying: All applications will be reviewed to determine whether or not the stated requirements are met. Those individuals meeting the stated requirements will be invited to the oral examination.
ORAL EXAMINATION: A job-related oral examination will be conducted to evaluate and compare participating candidates' knowledge, skills, and abilities in relation to those factors which job analysis has determined to be essential for successful performance of the job. Candidates must earn a passing score of 70 percent or higher to qualify for placement on the eligible list.
PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS: All applicants must possess the personal qualifications generally recognized as essential to being an outstanding public employee, including integrity, initiative, dependability, courtesy, and good judgment and ability to work with others as a team and follow instructions.
BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION: Applicants may be subjected to a thorough background investigation, which may include inquiry into past employment, education, credit, criminal background and driving record.
Candidates successfully completing the examination process may be placed on an Eligible Applicant List for a period of (6) six months.
