Document Assistant

The Document Assistant provides support to attorneys on a variety of routine tasks and administrative duties within a narrow scope of responsibility. The goal of this position is to manage and maintain a large volume of records in an organized, retrievable fashion, which includes digesting and coding documents for database entry. Work is oriented around a standardized set of procedures, precedents and practices. This position will be found chiefly in the Litigation Section.

 

Tasks Which May Be Performed:


-Responding to subpoenas regarding the production of records



-Handling garnishments, wage assignments, bankruptcies and creditors' rights issues



-Responding to tax levies and routine tax issues



-Handling disability benefits law cases



-Referring to legal research materials or consulting with attorneys



-Handling a large volume of work in a timely and courteous manner

 

Required Competencies:

-Good working knowledge of insurance, the Company's products and organization preferred


 

-Analytical ability to distinguish between matters which may be handled directly and which require consultation with attorneys or staff



-Ability to interact with Officers, attorneys, business clients, external claimants and attorneys in a courteous manner



-Discretion to handle confidential information



-Familiarity with personal computers and software preferred



-College degree and paralegal certificate preferred
