Head of Legal

As a member of top management, this position provides general legal counsel for the company. Resolves legal issues and provides guidance in all areas of the business.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Prepares all legal agreements involving, but not limited to, loans, leases and real estate.

 

Provides legal advice to company personnel to ensure compliance with federal, state, local and corporate laws.

 

Represents the company in court and other legal and paralegal forums.

 

Informs management of legal changes affecting operations.

 

Maintains current knowledge of the legal impact of tax regulations and legislation.

 

Creates and reviews all forms and contracts for legal acceptability to minimize company exposure to risk and financial damage.

 

Studies Constitution, statutes, decisions, and ordinances of quasi-judicial bodies.

 

Interprets laws, rulings, and regulations for corporation.

 

Examines legal data to determine advisability of defending or prosecuting lawsuit.

 

Acts as agent of corporation in various transactions.

 

Other duties may be assigned.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:  

 Directly supervises three employees in the Legal Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

 Computer Skills:

 To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

 



Other Skills and Abilities: 



 Must be familiar with corporate law, mortgage industry, real estate, and consumer  relations experience.  Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.

Education and/or Experience  

 Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent; and four to ten years experience in the mortgage industry or equivalent combination of education and experience.
