A large insurance provider is seeking a Health Care Attorney Consultant to join their Risk Management Department.  This company is dedicated to working with organizations to reduce risk and improve quality of patient care in the healthcare industry. 

 

This research based position is located in Birmingham, AL.  You will be responsible for effectively communication, by telephone or in writing, research-based opinions on professional medical liability questions presented by the Underwriting department, the Claims department, or an insured hospital, physician, dentist, or managed care organizations. This position interacts with the Claims department; requires attendance at the Large and Problem Case meetings; interaction with the Education Services department includes developing, reviewing, and/or making presentations on professional medical liability issues; and interaction with the company?s defense attorneys includes collaboration on internal issues, customer questions, and new products or programs.  The Consultant participates, as needed, in the development of new products or programs.  Overnight travel (50%), both in state and out-of-state, is necessary.  The Consultant is responsible for keeping the department abreast of current health and legal issues.

 

The ideal candidate has a clinical background (RN preferred but not required) with a juris doctorate from an accredited law school or a licensed attorney with experience in health care law or medical malpractice defense. Experience using Lexis-Nexis or Westlaw and the Internet for research. The Consultant has experience using various computer programs such as Excel and Microsoft Word.
