Manager of Legal Employment

This position is for an international law firm.

 

JOB SUMMARY:  This is a senior management position with overall responsibility for all matters relating to attorney employment (other than recruitment) and human resources services offered to attorneys

JOB RELATIONSHIPS:  Reports directly to the Director of Human Resources.  Interacts frequently with all other Department Directors in the New York office as well as the Partners and associates in the New York office.  This is a highly visible position, and as such, entails frequent interaction and collaboration with attorneys, partners involved with administrative matters, and directors of other administrative departments.  Also interacts frequently with Directors and Managers in other offices, particularly DC.  Directly supervises Legal Employment Assistant.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 



  Primary:

Associate and Counsel Employment

 

?  Manages all administrative aspects of the employment of associates including arrivals, conflicts protocols, departures, secondments, externships, salary/bonus administration, and all related paperwork

?  Manages administration of 1-9 procedures, Visas and other employment authorizations and all related record keeping

?  Manages all database adjustments and payroll notifications

?  Manages orientation procedures for all incoming attorneys including special lateral orientations and Fried Frank University

?  Manages interoffice transfers and related relocation issues.

?  Manages all aspects of attorney internal office moves and communicates details to attorneys

?  Manages process of setting associate and counsel compensation, bonus and benefits packages.

?  Handles special needs of associates and counsel, e.g., disability leaves or accommodations, personal leaves of absence, etc.

?  Develops and maintain comprehensive Attorney Policy Manual; manage compliance with policies; respond to inquiries about the application of policies to specific situations.

?  Produces regular and ad hoc reports of associate employment statistics and demographics.

?  Develop and maintain database to track associate retention in conjunction with the  HRIS Manager.

?  Conducts exit interviews and provide periodic reports of trends, issues, concerns, opportunities,
etc.

?  Manages personnel file maintenance

?  Manages inquiries for Bar Admission confirmation affidavits and other correspondence requested by attorneys in reference to employment verifications

 

Secondary:

?  Backs up Employee Relations Manager when necessary

?  Fields questions from administrative staff members when necessary

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

 

Education: Advanced degree in relevant area, e.g., human resources, business, organizational development, J.D. not required, but desirable

 

Experience:  At least three years relevant experience

Ability to act in a fair, equitable and professional manner at all times with a high degree of integrity.  Ability to act in an even tempered manner while juggling multiple priorities confident, resilient, perceptive.  Strong customer orientation and a strong team player.  Ability to work independently, under pressure with interruptions and tight deadlines; ability to use independent judgment, ability to assign and delegate work, problem solve, answer questions and evaluate results of performance in a realistic way.  Must be resourceful, detail-oriented, organized and proactive to the needs of the job.  Demonstrates a commitment to Firm values.

 

Technological Skills:  Proficiency with various software programs including Outlook, Word, Excel, and use of the Internet.
