Description of Duties & Responsibilities:

The Patent Docket Manager will be responsible for the patent docketing function of Bayer CropScience LP (Limited Partnership) in Research Triangle Park, NC. This position will report to the Head of the Patent Department, and will have daily contact with all department professionals to discuss docketing activity and deadlines, workload prioritization, status of applications, and decisions made regarding payment or non-payment of maintenance fees. The Patent Docket Manager will make a final review of all submissions to U.S., Canadian, and Mexican patent offices and maintain corporate patent records to ensure that all legal documents are complete, accurate and are filed on time.

Job Responsibilities Include:

? Maintains a continuous daily computer docket of invention disclosures and patent applications, including deadlines for all U.S., Canadian, and Mexican patent prosecution-related filings and patent maintenance fees

? Drafts legal documents and prepares forms and correspondence, including replies to patent offices for professional signature.

? Forwards patent applications to attorneys, assigns internal docket numbers, oversees prior submissions, and distributes patents to interested company personnel.

? Keeps detailed records of the Department?s Depository Account in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, making deposits as required and balancing on a monthly basis, and takes measures to correct errors made by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

? Tracks patent office fees for expenditures made on behalf of Bayer CropScience AG for filing, prosecuting, and maintaining patents handled by the Bayer CropScience LP Patent Department and prepares quarterly invoices sent to Bayer CropScience AG in Germany.

? Assists with supervision and training of one or more docket clerk(s) in day-to-day activity; keeps clerk(s) informed of all patent office rule changes and ensures implementation of changes in procedure.

Minimum Education Required:

This position requires a high school diploma, preferably supplemented with a business, professional school or paralegal certificate.

Minimum Experience Required:

The candidate must have a minimum of five years experience (preferably as a paralegal) working in a patent department, with a minimum of two years in a patent docketing function.

Special Qualifications:

This position requires the ability to work independently, communicate professionally and effectively, organize a heavy workload, and set priorities to ensure all responsibilities and deadlines are met.

The successful candidate will be able to meet a wide variety of critical time deadlines and use initiative, judgment, skills, and experience to prioritize daily work activities.

A commitment to professionalism and confidentiality is expected as this department works on patent applications, patent disclosures, and other intellectual property matters that are highly confidential and/or business sensitive in nature.

A current working knowledge of U.S., PCT (Patent Cooperation Treaty), Canadian, and Mexican Patent office rules is preferred, as well as prior experience with chemical/chemical equations, engineering, and legal terminology.

The applicant should have experience with personal computers and PC software related to database management (preferably the PATTSY docketing program), spreadsheets, and word processing in a law function.
