Senior Corporate Counsel - Real Estate

Position Summary: This attorney will be responsible for management of all legal support to the engineering and operations group in the West region, with particular focus on site development functions: acquisition, leasing, zoning, permitting, construction and property management, special projects and litigation. The position reports to the Director of Legal Affairs-Engineering Operations and provides direct legal advice to the Vice President, West Region Engineering and Operations. This position will be located in Concord, CA.



Primary responsibilities include:

Management of 4-6 legal staff in the review and approval of leases, contracts, title, environmental matters, landlord disputes, and small claims and other legal matters arising in the region
Training, setting team performance goals, and monitoring additional resources -outside counsel, consultants and temporary staff
Managing budget and invoices
Working with internal business units to develop strategies, track progress against goals and implement new policy and procedure in alignment with other regions.
Travel among the Western markets and to Bellevue is required on a regular basis.


Qualifications:

Candidate must have a law degree, and have 8 or more years of related work experience.
Preferred that the candidate be licensed to practice in one or more states in the West.
A background in litigation, including experience in dealing with Telecommunications Act matters and land use requirements in the western United States, is essential. Familiarity with development in California is helpful.
Law firm and in-house experience are strongly desired.
Prior management experience is helpful.
The candidate must have strong interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication, and a proven ability to excel in a fast-paced environment working with multiple customers under tight deadlines.
A customer-service orientation and an ability to appropriately weigh legal and business risks are also required.
