Sr. Counsel Construction and Zoning

The Sr. Counsel Construction and Zoning will provide direct legal support to the

Real Estate and Services Departments in connection with the identification and

legal evaluation of new PetsHotel sites and remodel opportunities.

 

 

Responsible for securing all necessary public approvals and land use permits for

PetsHotel, Day Care and veterinary uses in new and existing stores.  Identify,

select and manage all necessary outside local counsel involved in securing

governmental approvals.  Attend and testify on behalf of PetSmart at approval

hearings.  Provide direct legal support to the Property Management and

Construction Departments.

 

Responsible for managing any litigation involving landlord/tenant relationship. Supervise and manage 2 paralegals who are responsible for lease administration matters arising out of 850 existing store locations (such as lease amendments, estoppels, consents, subordination agreements). Supervise and manage the Zoning Manager who is responsible for determining land use issues and managing the land use application process.

 

JD with 10 to 15 years of relevant experience; must have the ability to represent

and speak for PetSmart in a public forum in a clear and convincing manner; must

be able to interface effectively with senior management; must be able to

effectively build team relationships; must be able to manage and mentor direct

staff reports; must be able to manage outside attorneys to achieve desired

business objectives.
