Sr. Patent Attorney

Essential Functions:

 Filing patent applications and performing patent prosecution activities relating to all Cognex Business Units.Managing external law firm patent filing and prosecution efforts including review and edit of the work product.Patent litigation discovery and case management.The technical analysis of competitor products for possible infringement of Cognex patents and the preparation of memoranda in support of findings and recommendations to senior management with respect to assertions of Cognex patents.Supporting product development efforts to ensure Cognex does not infringe patents of others.Managing the Patent Review Board process whereby invention disclosures are reviewed and approved for patent applications filing.Setting the Corporate patent strategy and budget.Assisting in structuring and drafting technology partnering agreements and licensing agreements.Being involved with other aspects of Cognex?s intellectual property protection program:Patent program seminars to encourage submission of invention disclosuresTrade secret protection presentations and program implementation

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 Superior patent writing skills must be demonstratedAbility to communicate complex technical concepts into easy to understand written descriptions is essential.Ability to communicate clearly and convincingly with non-attorneys, including senior engineering management and staff

 

Minimum education and work experience required:

 Minimum of 5 years experience writing and prosecuting patent applicationsLitigation experienceBachelor?s degree in Physics or Electrical Engineering is required. (Masters degree is preferred)Previous engineering work experience is requiredA law degree and PTO Registration number is also requiredMust be a member of Massachusetts Bar
