About the Opportunity
Staff Attorney (Workers' Compensation)
(East Hanover Staff Counsel Office)
Selective Insurance is seeking a staff counsel professional to represent insureds in defense of claims and provide legal services in defense of claims litigation.
Some essential duties of this position are as follows:
? Reviews and evaluates defense assignment.
? Prepares pleading and engages in discovery and trial practice where appropriate.
? Reports to claims department on a regular basis concerning the status of defense assignments.
? Makes regular and effective use of the legal library when researching issues of law and preparing legal memoranda and briefs.
? Provides support services to claims, underwriting and other adjunct departments in the form of legal opinions, recommendations and digests of recent developments in decisional and statutory law.
? Controls and directs clerical activity necessary to support function of position.
? Reports periodically to managing attorney concerning compliance with production quotas.
To be successful in this position the following qualifications are required:Juris Doctorate (JD) Law Degree 2-12 years of legal workers' compensation experienceSuperior writing skills Computerized research and word processing proficiency and case management database proficiencyDemonstrated commitment to customer and clientMust possess highest professional and ethical standards
To be successful in this position the following qualifications are preferred:
? Experience in the New Jersey workers? compensation courts with trials, pre-trial, motions and conferences
