Area Operations Manager

Job Title: Operations Manager ? Area

Reports To: VP, General Manager

 

Summary:

Manages all activities related to the safe production of quality stone, hot mix asphalt, and sand & gravel by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain a safe working environment and safe working practices in all plant operations,
Provide guidance, direction and assistance to plant managers in the operating decisions of their facilities and in the development of the operations strategy for the Eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey operations,
Make, influence or review management decisions in the areas of capital budgeting, production planning, staffing, overtime, and inventory management,
Manage large projects including coordinating contractors, budgets, cost control, start-up and post project reviews,
Responsible for defending capital budgets, operating budgets, and operating costs while achieving the Economic Value Added (EVA) goals for the area,
Work with the sales team to coordinate production to meet customer needs and to identify and develop new uses/applications for existing products and developing new products,
Review and facilitate the prioritizing of individuals managing the workload,
Review the performance of the individual managers that report to the operations manager and provide timely feedback,
Provide guidance and assistance with union contract negotiations and grievances,

 

Education/Experience:
Batchelor?s degree preferred, ideally in an engineering discipline such as mine engineering, civil engineering or geology or Associate?s degree with relevant work experience,
Requires comprehensive knowledge of production operations to, include 5+ years experience in multi-operation management,
Must have knowledge of the capability and proper utilization of machinery and equipment used in dredging, drilling, loading, unloading, transporting, crushing, conveying, screening and stockpiling crushed stone, sand & gravel and hot mix asphalt,
Requires knowledge of regulations and regulatory agencies such as: MSHA, OSHA, EPA, zoning laws, employment and employee-related laws,
Must have working knowledge of MS Office, Essbase and JD. Edwards.
