Assistant Plant Manager

Fortune Global 500 printing company seeking an Assistant Plant Manager at our Somerset plant.  We have a 100 year history, 30 plants, and 54 sales offices.  Our broad range of products include Coffee table books: hard cover, high end four color titles, catalogues, etc.; Commercial Printing:  collateral, posters, annual reports, etc.; and Digital printing:  variable data print, books on demand, etc.

 

The Assistant Plant Manager will work with the Plant Manager to ensure smooth running of all manufacturing operations including Digital Prep-Press, Press, Bindery, Filfillment, Scheduling, Estimating, Pick and Pack, and Shipping.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

 

? Attend Production meeting to review work that is due

 

? Meet with Press/Plant Manager and foreman to discuss high priority jobs.

 

? Confirm with any customers that may be in the building, if no sales support,

 

? Coordinate the needs of any customer.  This includes food, hotel and transportation needs.

 

? Coordinate production schedule with Digital Imaging department.

 

? Locate and push specific jobs due for press, customers, or rush shipment.

 

? Check and push jobs in plate room and bindery departments, check jobs working in fulfillment.

 

? Coordinate with Bindery foreman to monitor temporary personnel throughout shifts.  Confirm what jobs temp services are working on.

 

? Responsible for follow up on rush orders in certain deadline situations.

 

? Process incoming ready work for press jobs.

 

? Troubleshoot any problems that arise.

 

? Meet periodically with the shift staff for ideas, comments and suggestions.  Show written confirmation from items at that meeting.

 

? Contact outside services personnel with problems when necessary.

 

? Prepare information for Production Coordinators and Plant Manager.

 

? Know fulfillment jobs being worked on.  Verify fulfillment production is being met based on specs from Bindery supervisor.

 

? Report all disciplinary issues to Plant Manager and Human Resources.  Must confirm all conversations with any employee in writing.

 

? To monitor departmental expenses, paying close attention to budgetary constraints.

? Assure all departmental documents related to the ISO quality and environmental management systems are reviewed and updated and available for employees as necessary.  Assure all training for ISO is attended as requested.

Plant Manager, departmental employees, Pre-press Manager, Press Manager, Sales persons, Production Coordinators and Scheduler, estimating, customers.

 

Education, Experience, Requirements Necessary:

 

High school Diploma. Prefer BA/BS degree.  At least 5 years experience in a production environment in a commercial printing facility (pre-press, sheetfed pressroom, finishing) Ability to work autonomously, meet deadlines, communicate with all levels of employee population also required. The principal activities are representative and not necessarily all-inclusive.

 

Person may be required to sit, stand, and/or walk for long periods of time. May be required to bend and lift 10-20 pounds or more at a time.
