BUYER - SENIOR, CASTINGS

We are a medium size manufacturing Company located in the far western Chicago suburbs looking for a qualified individual for the important position of Senior Casting Buyer.  The Company is involved in designing and manufacturing heavy equipment for which castings are a key component.  The key requirement is a thorough understanding of foundry operations,  gained either through experience working with a foundry or with a manufacturing company.

 

Responsibilities  and Requirements Include:

Responsible for purchasing, evaluating, qualifying, negotiating all types of castings and related materials from a variety of foundries, including the responsibility for vendor selection and upkeep.

 

Familiar with the following material: Gray Iron, Ductile Iron, Iron Alloys, (Percentages of Nickel / Chromium) Brass and Stainless Steel.  Understanding of foundry capabilities and capacities, Green Sand Molding, Chemically Bonded Molding Systems, Nobake, Airset Molding Systems and floor molding processes for larger castings.

 

Knowledge of Pattern Design: Must be able to read blueprints, knowledge of Sand Mold and Core Prototyping and an understanding  of CAD to design new equipment.

 

Evaluate vendor quotes, capabilities and services to determine the best possible and desirable supplier to provide a quality product within the required time frame.

 

Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish the goals required as a Casting Buyer. The ability and initiative to locate proper sources to insure that the quality standards, costs and delivery schedules are accomplished.

 

Maintain all position/tracking related records and documentations as required. Provide feedback reports to management reflecting any changes in market conditions. Must have all required computer skills in a windows based operating system.

 

Familiarity with inventory and shop procedures, and experience in an engineered to order manufacturing environment.

 

Travel will be required ocassionally.  Supplier audits and evaluations must be performed as required.

 

Require 5+ years of experience as a casting buyer or experience working in a foundry.

An engineering degree or technical education is a plus.
