SUMMARY
Purchases items, materials, and/or services within the Plant Purchasing Group to ensure Heraeus receives the product or service at the best price, at the specified quality, when needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):
? Assesses and verifies compliance of requisition to purchasing procedures.
? Manages blanket order process for established products from creation to reminders of expiration.
? Expedites and tracks purchase orders and resolves discrepancies.
? Acts as a backup to PPG team members in the management of service and supply contracts for vending machines, office supplies, etc.
? Keeps abreast of market trends, changes in business practices in the assigned markets, and new or altered types of materials/items entering the market. Provides recommendations of purchases to management.
? Monitors contractor/supplier compliance with contract terms, resolves problems concerning obligations of the parties, explains and renegotiates terms w/management approval or supervision, and ensures satisfactory contract completion.
? Interacts in a team environment and promotes good customer service within all departments of TMD including Receiving, Accounting and other purchasing staff. Assist with various clerical responsibilities.
? Maintains effective business relationships with assigned suppliers by understanding their business, TMD?s share of their business, ethical interactions & communications.
? Uses ethical negotiating and purchasing practices and abides by all PPG policies, procedures and work instructions in all activities.
? Performs multiple tasks simultaneously in dynamic, fast-paced environment.
? Acts as super user on document control database.
? Utilizes Microsoft Office Software (i.e. Word, Excel, Power Point) and internet e-mail.
Buyer I (equivalent to Junior Buyer)
? All of the above.
? Purchases routine production, office and maintenance supplies and equipment (valued under $5k or as assigned), spare parts, plant services (landscaping, janitorial, etc.), and construction services.
? Requests information & proposals from suppliers, negotiates terms w/management approval or supervision, places orders, investigates and resolves discrepancies, expedites key products or services.
? Assists higher level buyers in purchasing and/or negotiating contracts for items, materials or services of a specialized nature.
Buyer II (equivalent to Buyer)
? All of the above.
? Negotiates and purchases production, office and maintenance supplies and equipment (valued under $10k or as assigned), spare parts, plant services (landscaping, janitorial, etc.), and construction services.
? Requests information & proposals from suppliers, negotiates terms w/management approval or supervision, places orders, investigates and resolves discrepancies, expedites products or services.
Buyer III (equivalent to Senior Buyer)
? All of the above.
? Negotiates and purchases production, office and maintenance supplies and equipment (valued under $30k or as assigned and of a technical or specialized nature), spare parts, plant services (landscaping, janitorial, etc.), and construction services.
? Investigates, sources, evaluates and negotiates purchases with suppliers in order to obtain the best price, quality, terms and delivery for TMD. Analyzes impact of suppliers? proposals to TMD.
? Prepares or supervises preparation of purchase orders from requisitions. Resolves purchase order problems for correct receipt into 4th Shift and proper payment by Accounting.
? Interacts with suppliers to obtain information, negotiates terms, purchases any item or service and is a leading team member when addressing problems with existing equipment, product or service.
? Drives purchasing-related issues with various cross-functional team members.
? Locates and/or promotes new sources of supply. Keeps abreast of market trends, changes in business practices in the assigned markets, new or altered types of materials/items entering the market. Provides recommendations of purchases to management.
? Strategizes the purchase of various commodities/items needed (i.e. pursuit of blanket orders, change in suppliers, dual or multiple source options).
? Performs preliminary legal review of purchase agreements.
? Provides guidance and mentoring to lower level buyers & purchasing administrative roles within PPG.

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Buyer I ? High School Diploma or GED and a minimum 2 years experience in a purchasing role, preferably in a manufacturing environment required. B.S./B.A. degree preferred, preferably within Business Management or Procurement.
Buyer II - B.S./B.A. degree required, preferably within Business Management or Procurement; minimum 3 years experience in a purchasing role, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
Buyer III - B.S./B.A. degree required, preferably within Business Management or Procurement; minimum 8 years experience in a purchasing role, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must have excellent oral and written presentation communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with suppliers, departmental team members and internal personnel at all levels.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Must be capable of analyzing available data and arriving at factual and statistically founded conclusions with a reasonable estimate of confidence and probability of error.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to reach with hands and arms and talk and hear. The incumbent frequently is required to walk, sit, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The incumbent is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
