CNC Operator

Sandvik Tooling manufactures tools and tooling systems for metal cutting. Sandvik Tooling is the largest of Sandvik?s three business areas, and has grown rapidly.

Sandvik Tooling has immediate openings for  3rd shift CNC Machinists in their Mebane, NC facility.

Basic Function:
The Machine Operator sets up and operates computer numerical control (CNC) machines including milling, turning and/or grinding machines, to fabricate metal cutting tools. The operator is responsible for all quality measurement and will work closely with engineering to improve quality and throughput. The operator will work within a flow group and work as a team to meet both group and plant output goals.

 

Key Performance Areas:
 Able to read drawings, identify dimensions and tolerances and make machine adjustments to meet product specifications. Adjustments include speed, feed, coolant, flow, and depth and angle cut in a Fanuc controler.
 Set ups include changing tooling, selecting correct fixtures, down loading the programs and indicating the machines if necessary. Some trouble shooting of programs is required.
 Inspects production using the following equipment: optical comparator, dial indicators, micrometers, fixed gauges, functional gauges, and Statistical Process Control (SPC). Follows assigned process control plan.
 Verifies set-up of other personnel when requested, and insures that his/her set-up is always verified by another machine operator or supervisor prior to running the machine.
 Monitor machine operation for any malfunctions such as worn out tooling, insufficient coolant supply, unstable fixtures, etc.
 Account for all materials and finished work pieces issued to each work order.
 Follow good housekeeping practices in assigned work area.  Clean machinery and equipment and leave work area neat and orderly.
 Maintain and improve safety, environmental, and housekeeping standards.
 

Your Profile:
Ideal candidates will have a High School Diploma or GED; CNC experience and CNC certification or training a plus.; the ability to read and understand drawings, specifications, inspections drawings and safety rules; the ability to read, write and speak English fluently; the ability to work without direct supervision and to follow written instructions and techniques; and be able to understand and perform basic mathematical calculations
