CNC PROGRAMMER / SET-UP PERSON / OPERATOR

 

Company Background:

 

Allied Machine Tool and Design is a growing Fort Lauderdale machine shop looking for an experienced CNC Programmer / Set-Up Person and Operator (multiple positions available).  The CNC department runs 2 shifts per day along with some weekend hours as needed.  We are offering excellent pay for the right person(s).

 

Position Summary:

 

This position is responsible for the manufacture of prototype and production parts, as well as machine tooling and fixtures as required.  This position requires the ability to generate CNC part programs using CAD software.  This position will need to be able to specify standard and special cutting tools for each part, setup the job from start to finish, and operate the various CNC milling machines and lathes, as well as standard machine shop equipment including milling machines, lathes and surface grinder (as needed).  Work requires extreme accuracy with close tolerances, some critical dimensions, and a working knowledge of geometric tolerances. This position requires the ability to inspect completed work with a variety of measuring equipment such as height gages, micrometers, calipers, dial indicators and shadowgraph.

 

Responsibilities:

 

?  Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials and other job specifications.

?  Programs mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.

?  Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three-jaw chucks, vises, fixtures, all applicable tools, attachments, collets, etc.

?  Verifies setup settings by measuring positions, first-run part dimensions, and sample work pieces

?  Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.

?  Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.

?  Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.

?  Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.

?  Documents actions by completing production work orders.

?  Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests as well as exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

?  Familiar with some or all of the following machines:  Cincinnati mills & lathes, Mazak mills, Kitamura mill, Mori Seiki lathes.

Minimum Qualifications:

 

?  Trade / technical school graduate with 2-3 years machinist experience or school can be substituted with 3-5 years CNC milling or lathe experience.

 

?  Able to work under minimal supervision with heavy emphasis on machine setups, breakdowns and independent programming of various jobs, sometimes more than one setup per day.

 

?  Good verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.  Able to train and work well with others.

 

?  Able to work overtime and on weekends as needed for the position.
