Senior Designers:
Our senior designers are responsible for making preliminary design studies, functional and stress calculations, and final layouts for major elements of a system required to perform reliability under adverse environments (shock, vibration, temperature, and corrosive atmospheres). Emphasis is placed on application of sound technical and personal judgment and inventiveness in producing designs that represent economical, functional, and reliable equipment in accordance with engineering information, Sperry standard practice, and customer specifications and requirements. Generate designs that represent economical, functional, and reliable equipment reflecting the state-of-the-art where applicable as well as established methods and techniques. Makes the necessary calculations involved in the solution of design problems. Establish the requirements for materials, finishes, and tolerances for designs. Two years technical school graduate in design and drafting education or equivalent education, training, and/or experience. Six years design layout, checking, and detailing at designer level.
Designer:
Our designers work with minimum supervision to make preliminary design studies, functional calculations, and final layout for a minor unit or element of a system involving one phase of design (mechanical, electronic, or hydraulic). Primary responsibilities include harness design and layout for console in military/aerospace environment. Candidate must be able to develop the parts list and engineering drawings necessary for manufacturing use in a 2D and 3D CAD modeling environment. Must use sound technical and personal judgment and be creative in producing designs that represent economical, functional, and reliable equipment. Incumbent generates designs that represent economical, functional, and reliable equipment, making necessary calculations involved in the solution of design problems; establishes requirements for materials, finishes, and tolerances for designs. Position requires a high school diploma plus two years of technical school related to design and drafting or equivalent education, training, and/or work experience. Candidate must have knowledge of mathematics, machine design, electronics, and strengths and properties of material. Requires a minimum of six years drafting and design experience and a practical knowledge of manufacturing, purchasing, and inspection operations.
Both levels require experience in electrical design, cables, harnesses, wiring assemblies, Bill of Material development and schematic work. Knowledge of military specifications and IPC specifications required. Prefer familiarity with Drawings Standards ASME Y14.xx, AutoCAD R14-2005, MS Excel, MS Word, manufacturing knowledge for processes associated with wire harness and cable assemblies Schematics (Work View - Mentor Graphics eProduct Designer (EPD) & L-Cable). Exposure to Unigraphics wire development (NX2) is beneficial. Final grade determination will be based on experience.
