Position Summary:
Minimizes loss of production due to poor casting quality, participates in the development of new technology, and improves the productivity and level of quality of the die cast plants.

Responsibilities
Recognizes the die cast process variables that control dimensional tolerances, surface finishes and internal soundness
Establishes whether die cast scrap is due to tooling, set-up and/or machine problems through the use of available test equipment and deductive reasoning.
Optimizes machine performance by measuring, adjusting and evaluating machine parameters.
Recognizes the effect of set-up variables on machine and tolling performance.
Investigates excessive scrap and initiates corrective action.
Investigates the first breakdown of a die cast die and initiates action to eliminate future breakdowns from the same or related cause.
Establishes the first time machine and process parameters.
Supervises the casting of all sample dies and has die corrections made when necessary.
Recommends replacement dies or new segments for existing dies to eliminate poor quality and lost production.
Reviews die design before being released to build and review gating and venting before sampling.
Prepares and distributes set-up work sheets to set-up men before the start of any set-up
Coordinates total set-up, from pre-set to check out and start up, with Superintendent. Determines which set-ups should have all variables under control before production starts.

Provides die repair with information related to die problems.
Advises maintenance of unusual machine problems effecting casting quality and/or process efficiency.
Develops a working knowledge of the following die cast related equipment:
a) casting extractor
b) loose piece knockout fixture
c) release application
d) pouring furnace operation
e) trim press & trim die operation
f) Robot installation & operation
Introduces & refines new die cast methods & procedures to keep Mercury at the leading edge of die cast technology.
Provides work directions and assists in the training of lower level Process Coordinators.

Knowledge, Skill and Ability Requirements
Working knowledge of hydraulics
Working knowledge of dies and components
Thorough knowledge of machine and casting operation
Thorough knowledge of blueprints

Education and Experience Requirements
High School diploma required. Technical or Vocational school degree with emphasis in die cast manufacturing methods, techniques, design and repair preferred.
With degree, 5 - 8 years experience in die cast, die repair and/or die design operations (practical experience).
Without degree, 8 - 10 years experience in die cast, die repair and/or die design operations (practical experience)
