Director of Distribution

Andin International, Inc. is a privately held U.S. jewelry manufacturer headquartered in New York with operations in the Dominican Republic, Hong Kong, India, Israel and Thailand. We sell primarily to large department stores and major jewelry store chains. Our Jewelry.com website is the most often visited jewelry site on the Internet.

 

The Director of  Distribution is responsible for the overall performance of our vault and distribution activities, including establishing and executing the departmental operating plan and complying with shipping requirements. The Director of Distribution should provide strong leadership for departmental employees (including security and custodial employees), create and maintain a positive work environment and build an organization fostering teamwork and communication.

 

The Director of  Distribution is also expected to implement best practices and drive productivity improvements, to provide for the timely inbound and outbound movement of jewelry, to develop plans to streamline operations and optimize per unit handling costs, to drive continuous improvement in our transport and shipping activities while maintaining a strong customer focus within  budgeted targets.

 

 

Responsibilities

 Understands how the distribution role supports/interfaces with other departments. Constructs strategies for department improvement. Strong hiring, continuous coaching, appraisal and dismissal practices. Aggressively seeks results and capitalizes on opportunities for improvement while maintaining expense responsibility and accountability.  Serves, supports, and provides resources to allow others to do their jobs. Ensures that the entire distribution staff is customer-focused (i.e. considers the customer in everything being done).  Continual analysis of work loads of managers and supervisors.Seeks out and implements new ways to improve quality and productivity. Responsible for establishing monthly budgets for distribution, security and office services and verifying that each department is operating within budget guidelines. Negotiates with vendors for supplies and equipment needs. Establishes purchasing procedures for non-inventoriable office expenses.

 

Qualifications

 

Ten years distribution and transportation experience. 

Five years manager-level experience of a distribution/warehousing, or similar operation.

Highly developed leadership, management, organizational, communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, problem resolution, and customer service skills.

Computer literacy is essential in MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS Word, and AS/400 applications.

Bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, Transportation Management, or related field.
