Facility/Maintenance Engineer

SPECIAL DEVICES, INC. is a global leader in the design and manufacture of pyrotechnic devices used in the automotive industry as initiators in airbag systems and by the aerospace industry in tactical missile and space launch systems. The company is seeking a talented Facility Engineer to work out of our Moorpark, CA location. You will report to the company Facility Manager and will be responsible for maintaining accurate facility drawings and databases for a high volume hazardous material manufacturing operation.   

 

Essential Functions

Depending on assignment, essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:Prepares various forms of facility project documentation, including Computer Aided Design (CAD) drawings for facility related modifications, improvements, and repairs.  Maintains original facility drawings and updates floor plans and equipment layouts as needed.Produces production equipment layouts for new installations and reconfigurations of existing equipment. Coordinates with all responsible directors, managers, and supervisors to accomplish necessary projects and resolve space management issues.  Coordinates with the Facility Manager to write design Statements of Work to develop plans and specifications for facility projects requiring permits from local authorities, and to review design documents obtained from Architect-Engineer firms. Compiles facility permit documentation and delivers to and picks up from local permit issuing authorities. Tracks cost estimates and timelines for facility projects. Coordinates with the Facility Manager to write clear, concise, enforceable construction contracts.  Works with the Facilities team and construction contractors to resolve minor engineering issues, and tracks construction progress.  Certifies contractor invoices for payment.Enters data and prepares reports from standardized databases.  Acts as the single point of contact for facilities requests and work orders. 

 

RequirementsB.S. degree in an engineering discipline (Facility Engineering is preferred) or five years experience in a related engineering field.  Working knowledge of local building codes, fire codes, and applicable environmental codes; OSHA and other health/safety regulatory codes essential to the company. Experience with CPM software and AutoCAD (currently running 2000).  Computer literacy and experience with work processing, spreadsheet, scheduling and database programs.   Strong verbal and written communication skills.  Ability to interact with all levels of employees and management. Must be able to read and understand Standard Operating Procedures.  Must be able to read, write and understand English. 

 

Working Conditions:General office environment and desk work, but with the requirement to move throughout the complete facilities.  Some outdoor activity.Infrequent travel may be required.
