Industrial Engineer

TITLE OF POSITION:  Industrial Engineer

 

BASIC PURPOSE:  To assist in planning for the utilization of production facilities and personnel to improve the efficiency of operations.  To develop and implement work measurement procedures.  To suggest and recommend solutions for operating supervisors in manufacturing projects and daily problem solving.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIB1LITIES:

 

1.  Studies functional statements, organization charts, and project information to determine functions and

responsibilities of various workers and units.  Identifies areas of overlap in duties and responsibilities.

Establishes work measurement programs 'and makes sample observations of work to develop standards of

manpower utilization.  Communicate results to supervisors, employees, and Payroll Department as 

appropriate.

 

2.  Analyzes utilization of manpower and machines in units an develops work simplification programs in areas

such as work distribution, work count, process flow, economy of worker motions, and layout of unit.  Plans 

space layout of units to attain objectives of work measurement and simplification studies.  Coordinates and 

communicates with the Maintenance Manager and Plant Manager as to implementation of recommendation.

 

3.  Works with manufacturing supervisors, Assistant Controller, and IS Technician to continue development of

cost estimating and cost reduction programs.

 

4.  Directs or conducts observation and, analysis of personnel and work procedures to determine time-and-motion

requirements of job duties.  Analyzes work study data and equipment specifications to establish time and

production standards.  Applies mathematical analysis to determine validity and reliability of sampling and

work study statistics.

 

5.  Develops, supervises, and maintains staff as assigned in order to attain the required objectives.

 

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:  Reports directly to the Sales Administration Manager.  Interrelates with manufacturing and quality assurance personnel for interchange of information.  Position has numerous contacts with production employees.
