We currently have a Instrumentation, Controls & Electronics Technician--Process career opportunity at our Dallas, TX location.

 

Purpose of position

The primary responsibility of this position is to teach maintenance employees and key production operators the fundamentals of the digital surfacing process.  Familiarity with the product produced?prescription lenses--is critical to success.  This position will lead a group of trainees through a period of classroom work, training at an experienced digital surfacing location, and start-up of the new technology at their worksite. This is a mentoring role.  Long term goal for this position is to expand scope to include the teaching of coating technology and associated controls.

Primary responsibilitiesTeach digital surfacing fundamentals from a controls and technology point of view.Understand lens geometry and relationship to machine settings.Support efficient start-up of production.Coordinate with other subject matter experts in prescription lens manufacturing quality and process improvement.Drive self-sufficiency in the lab for production and equipment reliability issues.Proper use of electrical, electronics, and pneumatic test equipment to troubleshoot, diagnose, and solve equipment operational problems. This includes troubleshooting electrical circuits, electronic control circuits, PLC controls, sensors, pneumatic components, and other electrical and electronic field devices.Develop and evolve training methods and materials.Provide technical support for continuous improvement of process technology.Other responsibilities as required by management.Travel is required.

Required knowledge, skills, & abilitiesStrong working knowledge of PLC?s Modicon and/or Allen-Bradley.Strong working knowledge of industrial controls and instrumentation.General familiarity with ophthalmic laboratory processes.Proven ability to troubleshoot process equipment both electronically and mechanically.Demonstrated ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams.Able to communicate with a variety of customers and committed to customer service.Ready, willing and able to make decisions and overcome obstacles.Flexible and responsive to the needs of the business.Self-managing, self-directed, self-motivated. Able to lift 20 lbs.

Desired knowledge, skills & abilitiesSpecific knowledge of ophthalmic digital surfacing process.Knowledge of traditional ophthalmic surfacing and polishing.Proven training skills.

Required experience5-8 years hands-on instrumentation, controls, and electronics experience.New installation and start-up experience.

Desired experience5-8 years ophthalmic laboratory experience.Demonstrated ability to teach others, formally and informally.Working knowledge of DataStream 7i Asset Management System software.

Required educationMinimum 2 year technical degree in related field.

Desired educationFormal training in instrumentation, controls, and electronics.Formal training in ophthalmic surfacing, coating, and finishing.Formal training in training.
