Maintenance Supervisor (Heavy-duty Mobile Equipment)

Summary:
Under direction of the Production Manager the Mobile Equipment Maintenance Coordinator supervises hourly bargaining unit employees engaged in the daily mobile equipment maintenance activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Plans, assigns and reviews work of mechanics involved in repairing and maintaining equipment in adherence to established policies and standards.Striving to ensure that maintenance performed by crews and/or contractors meets or exceeds established requirements.
2. Supervises the preparation and processing of requisitions and records on all equipment assigned to the work location.
3. Conducts inspections of assigned equipment and facilities where repair work is performed to ensure that work is properly completed.
4. Outlines technical procedures for subordinates involved in the performance of complicated repairs on gasoline and diesel equipment.
5. Supervises work on electrical, hydraulic and exhaust systems, light and heavy duty equipment, fuel injection, transmissions, brakes, and all related repairs to determine cause and effect of necessary repair.
6. Supervises storage of equipment and parts with responsibility for keeping maintenance and inventory records on all parts and equipment.
7. Will lead work teams through example and motivation, instruction, coaching, discipline, and otherwise oversee employee work performance.
8. Will resolve employee grievances to levels provided for within the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
9. Will ensure compliance with corporate policies, plant rules, environmental and safety procedures and laws.
10. Will coordinate with other departments to ensure completion of work orders and preventive maintenance and proactive identification of equipment reliability issues.
11. Must comply with company safety rules and regulations and wear proper safety equipment while on plant grounds. Safety equipment means clothing and apparatus including, but not limited to hardhat, safety glasses, ear protection, safety shoes, back support belts, gloves and respirators.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervision: Requires direct supervision of other employees doing work which is related or similar to the supervisor, including scheduling work, recommending leave, reviewing work for accuracy, performance appraisal, or interviewing applicants for position vacancies.
Independent Action: Requires objective assessment in analyzing and developing new work methods and procedures subject to periodic review and in making decisions according to established technical, professional or administrative standards.
Complexity: Requires a combination of job functions to establish facts, to draw daily operational conclusions, or to solve practical problems. This level also requires providing a variety of alternative solutions where only limited standardization exists.
Working Conditions: Requires performing regular job functions in an environment which includes exposure to various physical elements and a number of disagreeable working conditions. Also Requires the ability to work scheduled hours.
Physical Demands: Requires medium work, including continuous strenuous activities such as frequent reaching, bending, or lifting as well as performing work activities which require fine manual dexterity or coordination in operating machines or equipment.
Competencies:
Skill: Requires skill in developing formats and procedures for special applications OR in investigating and reviewing the use of equipment and data for a specialized function.
Knowledge: Requires knowledge of business practices and procedures or technical training in a craft or trade, including working from detailed instructions, to apply knowledge in a variety of practical situations.
Impact: Requires responsibility for contributing to immediate, ongoing agency objectives by facilitating the direct provision of services to the public or other state agencies. Errors at this level result in inaccurate reports or invalid test results and require significant investment of time and resources to detect.
Education and/or Experience:
BS degree in related field and/or three to five years' experience as a journeymen mechanic in a large garage with some experience in operating heavy equipment, two years of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity such as a manager or assistant manager
Computer Skills:
Extensive use of various Office software systems, as well as, various proprietary
Software systems.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Valid California Driver?s license.
Other Qualifications:
Knowledge of standard methods, practices and tools used in repair of automotive and other heavy duty equipment. Knowledge of the construction, operation and maintenance of automotive and other internal combustion equipment. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and precautionary measures applicable to maintenance, repair and operation of automotive and maintenance equipment. Knowledge of the repair and maintenance of diesel equipment. Knowledge of fuel injection repair and maintenance. Skill in the use of tools and in the operation of machines and equipment in the shop. Skill in locating defects in motor equipment. Ability to provide expert mechanical advice to users of the equipment. Ability to direct the work of a staff of mechanics. Ability to estimate the quantity of repair work and the need for replacement parts. Ability to make reports and keep records. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority.
