Manager, continuous improvementReporting to the General Manager the Continuous Improvement Manager will be the deployment champion for the continuous improvement initiatives in order to achieve world-class steel manufacturing processes.  The initiatives will include, but will not be limited to, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Self-Directed Work Teams, and Reliability-centered Maintenance programs.  The Continuous Improvement Manager will be responsible for planning, implementing, conducting, and facilitating continuous improvement projects, as well as, assessing facility gaps centered around continuous improvement efforts.

 

Key Responsibilities Include

Lean Manufacturing

Work with the company leadership and union workforce to champion the change to a lean enterprise by developing an implementation plan focused on satisfying customers? expectations.

Help develop and implement a plan to integrate lean principles with key metrics for the entire operation.

Identify critical paths and highest impact areas for Lean project selection.

Track, coach, and oversee Lean project progress to ensure that the assigned time frames and metrics are achieved.

Develop employees? skills and competencies in Lean concepts including Value Stream Mapping, 5S, Visual Controls, Flow, Kaizen Events, and Kanban, etc.

Six Sigma

Work with the company leadership and union workforce to champion the integration of Six Sigma into the daily operations of the plant.

Help develop the skills and competencies of employees in the concepts and methodologies of Six Sigma.

Develop a process for all employees to use for the elimination of variation and defects in all processes of the operations.

Track, coach and oversee Black Belt projects to ensure that the metrics and deliverables of their assigned projects are achieved.Self Directed Work Teams

Develop a process to implement Self-Directed Work Teams throughout the operations

Champion, drive transition, and monitor progress of implementation of the Self-Directed Work Team concept in each department by encouraging participation, coaching team members, and supporting team members.

Develop the skills and competencies of the employees in order for them to manage most day-to-day operations in the plant.

Reliability Engineering

Work with the Reliability Engineering Manager to implement the principles, practices, and tools of Reliability Engineering.

Work with each mill to develop and integrate a Reliability-Centered Maintenance process and program. 

 

Experience Requirements:

  Minimum Requirements:

?  At least five (5) years experience in continuous improvement programs with a technical or business background

?  Ability to prioritize work and handle multiple projects

?  Strong negotiating/interpersonal skills

?  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Must be able to communicate with the entire employee population, no matter what position they hold.

?  Strong analytical, problem solving, coaching, and team building skills

?  Education Requirements:

?  Bachelor?s degree in Engineering or Business or at least seven (7) years of
