H.C. Starck is an international group of companies, with more than 3,400 employees at production sites in Europe, North America and the Far East.  The Companies produce refractory metals and intermediates for advanced ceramics and process these materials into mill products and fabricated parts.This position is located in our corporate headquarters in Newton, Massachusetts. 

 

Job Function/Purpose:

Manage analytical testing, electrical testing, and metallurgical inspection to ensure the timely, accurate, and precise analysis of production and R&D samples.

 

Principle Activities/Duties:  Provide leadership to and review the work of Quality Control and Inspection Supervisors.  Manage Quality Control Laboratory work assignments and monitor effectiveness of laboratory performance.  Ensure that department procedures are maintained in accordance with the ISO-9001 standard.    Ensure training requirements are met and documented for all laboratory personnel.  Ensure consistent product quality by uniform application of procedures.    Conduct gage R&R studies and use the data to drive improvement. Provide technical support for internal and external customers.  Ensure that H.C. Starck products are tested and certified to customer requirements.  Drive toward improving and expanding laboratory methods through the effective use of statistics and by improving equipment capabilities.  Conduct rigorous investigations of customer complaints, out of control conditions, and process upsets with the goal of identifying the root cause and implementing effective corrective actions.  Work with other H.C. Starck sites to standardize testing procedures.  Proactively seek ways to decrease testing costs.  Minimize testing and inspection cycle times.  Meet regularly with internal customers to review their needs and Quality Control?s performance.  Manage on-time shipment data and distribute to entire site monthly.

 

Know how:

MS degree in a technical discipline.  Minimum of 10 years experience in an industrial testing laboratory, at least three of which have been in a supervisory position.  Must have a through knowledge of chemical, physical, metallurgical, and electrical testing.  The incumbent must possess strong analytical problem solving, organizational, and leadership skills.  Must have good interpersonal skills and the ability to manage a diverse group of individuals.  Must have the ability to communicate and influence at all levels of the organization and with customers.  Needs to have the skills to work on a project team to effectively execute a project.  Must understand safe work practices and have a demonstrated track record of putting safety before quantity.  Needs to understand employee policies and practices.

Must have demonstrated track record of implementing effective quality system improvements.
