Qualifications/Responsibilities:

 

Must be a degreed Engineer. 

Optical experience would be a plus.

Will maximize the effectiveness of assigned manufacturing departments.  Manage the costing and engineering change process within these areas.  Identify productivity, quality and safety improvement opportunities and implement as assigned through use of industrial engineering techniques and World Class Manufacturing philosophies.  Implement projects involving new technology, product launches, new processes, and improve existing processes.  Conduct experiments to solve quality problems.  Identify and implement cost reduction projects throughout assigned areas.



Drive cost reduction efforts in assigned production areas, through work measurement, methods analysis and function analysis.

Design and implement facilities layouts.



Review and improve product quality as necessary. 

Participate and lead if necessary, DFT improvement initiatives.



Implement, monitor, and improve assigned production areas using kanban inventory management system with the objective of reducing inventory through JIT methods.

Assist with launch of new product initiatives to include suggestion of manufacturability design alternatives, development of process, establishment of BOM?s and Routers, creation of capital request, estimation of costs and specification of equipment.



Assist with processing and tooling improvements.



Design and maintain necessary documentation as required by ISO9000 standards.



Determine costs, capital, as well as expense, needed for project implementation.  Establish detailed timelines for project completion.



Maintain and constantly update capital spending to ensure prescribed spending limits are not exceeded.









Provide technical support to manufacturing operations.  This includes proactively identifying areas of high scrap or inefficient production rates and implementing projects to eliminate or minimize them.  Make recommendations for alternate, low cost materials.  Will work on projects involving automation of processes.  Actively work with raw materials suppliers for the debugging of processing problems and implement projects to improve tooling/equipment to meet changing business needs.



Actively participate in the Customer Complaint process to resolve ongoing problems with products and processes.  This includes identifying root causes of deviant products and/or processes recommending and implementing permanent and effective corrective actions in coordination with the appropriate supervisor.  Update standard operating procedures as improvements/changes are made to processes.
