Manufacturing Engineer, Welding/BrazingManufacturing Engineer provides support to the welding and brazing processes throughout the facility.? This position is the process owner and is responsible for all technical aspects of welding (manual and orbital), torch brazing, and induction brazing. Primary responsibilities are as follows:We have approximately 30 welders and 12 brazers.? We weld austenitic stainless steel, precipitation hardening stainless steel, Inconel (600, 625, & 718), aluminum, and titanium in thicknesses ranging from .016' to .188'.? We braze austenitic stainless steel and precipitation hardening stainless steel.Maintain process procedures and work instructions in compliance with customer and industry specifications.The individual must be capable of reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications and translating them into intelligible working documents.We are governed by a multitude of customer and third party specifications.? Our practice is to write our own internal procedures that are used on the manufacturing floor.? (See MPP 2000)? These procedures need to be kept current as the governing specs are revised and/or as we add new customers.We have an Access database for all of our part specific work instructions.? (See sample)? Creation of work instructions is done in accordance with QP 2005.? (See attached)Define and administer the training and qualification of personnel in compliance with customer and industry specifications.We have an established training curriculum which has just recently been updated.? Our experienced welders work directly with the trainees on the 'hands on' portion of the training.We have a system in place for qualifying and documenting welding personnel in accordance with AWS D17.1 which has replaced MIL-STD-1595.Selection of tools and equipment.? Design special tooling as needed.? Write justification proposals for capital equipment as necessary.Recommend improvements or replacements for existing equipment and tooling.Qualification of process and/or specific weld/braze schedules in accordance with customer and/or industry specifications.Some specifications require periodic qualification of the processes (usually quarterly).? Procedures are in place for these.? The individual would need to assure that the periodic qualifications are performed as required.Some specifications require the qualification of specific weld schedules (usually for orbital welding).? The individual would need to arrange for qualification of schedules to be performed and documented as the need arises.???Troubleshoot process problems as they arise.? This includes generating NMR's and Corrective Actions.Respond to welding and brazing issues throughout the shop.Analyze overall yield trends on a regular basis.? Implement corrective action as necessary and make process improvements to reduce nonconformances.We have an Access database of all NDT results for every job inspected.? The data includes part number, quantity inspected, quantity rejected, type of defect, and operator.? The individual? would be expected to review the data periodically to look for any adverse trends that need to be addressed.Handle all customer and/or NADCAP approvals and audits.Welding and brazing are considered special processes by all of our customers.? The individual would be involved in obtaining approval from new customers and maintaining approvals.? The individual would be intimately involved in audits by the customer and/or NADCAP.???Interact with customers as necessary regarding all facets of the process.Provide input relative to preferred joint design to designers (both internal and customer).
