Material Handling Engineer

Job Summary:

Designs, specifies and recommends packaging and material handling systems to optimize productivity and cost of material movement for incoming, in-process, storage and outbound transportation of materials. Primarily interfaces with Manufacturing and Logistics personnel within the company, as well as with customers and suppliers.  The initial focus will be on start-up activities and establishment of the material handling processes and packaging.

 

Experience:

?  Familiarity with computer applications and/or controlled systems

?  Prior experience in Material Handling or Packaging capacity of a manufacturing company

?  Fork lift operation

?  Experience working with loading and unloading of trucks

 

Specific Skills:

?  Excellent communication skills (both oral and writing)

?  Relatively high level of analytical and problem solving ability



Desired ? Education/Skills/Experience:

?  Familiarity with AIAG

?  Familiarity with SAP R/3 enterprise system

?  Prior experience with an automotive supplier

?  German language skills (reading, writing, speaking)

?  Prior experience with a start-up operation

 

Education:

?  Bachelor?s degree with major in related field or related experience of 5 years

 

Essential Functions:

?  Coordinates material flow with other departments

?  Coordinates packaging containers with suppliers, customers, and logistics partners

?  Coordinates packaging issues with MTU affiliate in Germany

?  Recommends appropriate packaging containers for shipment of parts to customers

?  Recommends appropriate packaging containers for receipt of materials from suppliers

?  Works with suppliers and customers to design and optimize packaging design

?  Designs and administers returnable container systems

?  Works to continually improve flow of parts to achieve better cycle times and reduced costs

?  Supports and contributes to lean manufacturing practices such as 5S, kanban, poka-yoke, visual management, 1-piece flow, etc

?  Maintains material container drawings and records

?  Maintains packaging problem resolution files

?  Coordinates space for material on production lines

?  Keeps management abreast of progress, developments and pending problems

?  Investigates and resolves packaging and related problems

?  Ensures maintenance of quality standards in compliance with TS16949

?  Implements good housekeeping practices

?  Performs special projects as needed

?  Provides training to personnel as needed
