Material Handling Superintendent

SUMMARY



 

Coordinates information and material flow between the supplier, manufacturing, and the customer.  Oversees the Shipping, Receiving, and Customer Service processes and people per customer and internal specifications.  Develops and maintains adequate controls for stocks stored within the FG and raw material warehouse.

 

JOB DUTIES

 

Ensure that customer ship requirements are met based on material release quantities.

 

Report to Material Manager daily on all issues concerning daily objectives.

 

Provide customer service support for all delivery related activities including delivery rating analysis.  Assist in the corrective action and continuous improvement processes for all delivery rating concerns.

 

Direct, train, and develop all subordinates with regards to their job functions and company policies.

 

Promote safety, quality, cost savings, training and other general processes required to operate.

 

Review and report all injury/illness to manager daily.

 

Write and review all performance appraisals with direct reports.

 

Establish objectives for direct labor, hourly indirect and other overhead and development plans to support objectives by cost element.

 

Develop the function to maintain the Ford DDL and Chrysler SMART communication systems per customer requirements.

 

Ensure compliance with all customer and internal EDI/communication and labeling requirements.

 

Develop and maintain plans to achieve objectives for the department and plant on-going

Create and maintain shipping and receiving records in the repetitive manufacturing system based on customer releases and supplier deliveries.

 

Develop procedures to maintain housekeeping and 100% inventory control standards within the Finished Goods and Raw Material storage areas.  The procedures should include a robust stock rotation system.

 

Follow up on all major plant shortages, purchased parts and production parts in a manner as to protect 100% delivery.

 

Provide systems to maintain accurate records for shippers, freight, and delivery information such as ASNs as well as any other information pertaining to customer delivery.

 

Manage the transportation and material flow for the business within budgeted levels.

 

Action out the Continuous Improvement Process (CIP) within the Shipping and Receiving Departments.

 

Ensure department compliance to all company and government safety standards. 

 

Provide systems and procedures for the safe and efficient use of fork trucks.

 

Perform weekly Safety and Health/loss audit of area via walk through. Ensure all safety and housekeeping issues are resolved.

 

Supervisory responsibilities- Manages four shift supervisors who supervise up to 30 employees in the Shipping and Receiving Departments.  Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this area.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include hiring, training, and ongoing assessment of departmental needs in order to meet customer and internal expectations

 

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

 

The employee should be high energy, flexible, and able to work well under pressure.  They should be extremely well organized make decisions based upon logic and facts.

 

Strong technical skills in Materials and Logistics along with a solid Business Management background are required.

 

Must possess a thorough knowledge of all OEM traffic and EDI requirements.  Previous experience in tier one automotive warehouse, shipping, or customer service function is preferred.

 

Must be knowledgeable in all company windows based PC applications.

 

Must be a well organized individual and possess strong communication skills as well as the ability to effectively coordinate activity between several sources.  Excellent persuasion skills are necessary.

 

4 year college degree in Business Management or a related field.  APICs certification is a plus.  Exceptional knowledge of Material and Inventory control techniques (i.e., QS9000, MS9000 and AIAG).

 

Three years previous supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.

 

Must have a working knowledge of Ford DDL and Chrysler SMART communication systems.  One year prior working experience preferred.

 

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers and employees.

 

Ability to apply concepts such as ratios and proportions and solve complex algebraic equations.  Must be able to reconcile inventory and shipping records through perpetual transactions.

 

Ability to solve complex problems dealing with multiple variables on a frequent basis where limited standardization exists.  Strong decision making skills are a necessity.
