Materials Manager

Position Overview

Dynamic, growing privately held boat manufacture in Eastern WA.is seeking an exceptional individual to lead and develop the company's sales and marketing functions.The Materials Manager will provide leadership, planning, and direction for the material planning, purchasing and inventory management functions within Hewes Marine Company. This manager will serve as direct supervisor to all departmental personnel, which currently includes 8 employees. The position will report to the Plant Manager.

Responsibilities

Responsible for the creation and maintenance of the manufacturing bill of material (BOM) from the engineering BOM.

Responsible for developing a material requirements plan from the approved production plan. Material plan will utilize finite planning, visual systems, reorder point methodologies, as appropriate to ensure least cost material availability. Will utilize Lean Manufacturing techniques and processes as appropriate to simplify planning process.

Responsible for supplier base refinement/development to ensure minimal total costs of goods and services contracted for in the production of our products. Total costs includes raw material costs, inventory costs, and factory downtime costs due to material shortages. Acquisition plan will utilize discrete purchase orders, blanket purchase agreements, fixed price-variable delivery contracts, supplier owned material programs, or other appropriate methodologies to achieve least total cost goal.

Responsible for ensuring the quality of supplied materials or services. Will utilize Lean Manufacturing/Supply Chain Management techniques and processes as appropriate to simplify material acquisition processes.

Responsible for managing inventory functions within Hewes. Will ensure that both physical and electronic inventory quantities are accurate. Inventory control will be accomplished through both point of use as well as centralized inventory locations.

Responsible for implementing and utilizing Lean Manufacturing techniques and processes as appropriate to simplify inventory management and distribution processes.

Qualifications

Required: Five or more years pervious experience in purchasing, material planning, and inventory management disciplines in a team based environment for a manufacturing company. Demonstrated experience is required in each of these disciplines.

Required: Two or more years of supervision or management experience in one or more of these disciplines.

Required: Proficient in the use of word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and E-mail software, preferably with Microsoft Office products.

Required: Demonstrated experience in establishment, operation and maintenance of ERP software processes and data bases. Experience with MACOLA ERP software package a plus.

Required: Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and problem solving skills.

Desired: APICS certification.

Desired: Four year degree in business or operations management.
