Mechanical Design Engineer

Space Age Electronics, Inc., a leading manufacturer of products in the Life-Safety building Automation industry, has an opening for a Mechanical Design Engineer to design sheet metal enclosures that provide solutions for building automation /life safety equipment in commercial applications. Cost effective and robust mechanical designs efforts to have innovative solutions for new and existing products. State of the art design tool in 3D modeling with 2 cutting edge CNC facilities for fabrication. ?

?Primary Role

1.????? Individual will be responsible for taking design input from customers and product management (for both new and existing products) from functional/cost target specification to production. The activity will include project phases such as: competitive product physical analysis, preliminary / experimental design, formal design and documentation, prototype, technical documentation and team involvement for product innovations.

2.????? Specific responsibilities will include:

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? i.????? Working with sales and design input and conceptual design development.

???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? ii.????? Creating solid model mechanical drawings, 2D Layouts, Parts Lists, and Engineering information to control designs specifications for documentation.

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? iii.????? Conducting and supervising prototype or 1 time product parts and verification and validation of product design prior to release and approval.

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? iv.????? Analyzing failures of existing designs and implementing changes.

???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? v.????? Provide technical support for manufacturing departments for the implementation of new production parts/processes.? Accountability

1.????? The Engineer will be accountable to the Director of Business Development.? Secondary accountability will be to team of engineering?s, operations, other management team members, employees and customers of the company. QualificationsBS or an equivalent combination of education and experience is requiredMinimum of 5 years experience in a sheet metal mechanical engineering design capacity, with specific experience in relevant technologies.Proven ability to manage the timely delivery of design projects and work well within a team structure for project realization and development.Proficient with ISO 9000 and ECO documentation cycle and manufacturing product production. Comfortable in the functional operation of CNC punch presses and CNC forming breaks and other like CNC and operator equipment for sheet metal fabrication production.Software design experience with Microsoft office, Autocad, solid works or equivalent software packages.Innovative, assertive, and well organized.Excellent time management and project planning skills.Able to work with a minimum of direction and supervision.Able to work independently and in a team environment to meet deadlines.Familiarity with the latest industry codes and standards for NEMA, NEC and NFPA.Experience with sheet metal and CNC equipment and simulation programs.Fluent in MS-Word and Excel.Conversant in the disciplines of mechanical design.Proven skills in problem solving.Additional Skills and AbilitiesAn understanding of ?best practice? in ISO 9000 design development, methods for design and documentation developmentAbility to explore, assimilate and identify/determine new/best technologies and methods for mechanical design applicationsExperience developing mechanical sheet metal assemblies, as well as an understanding of current technology component level specifications/applications and hardware specifications.Expertise in mechanical assembly development, test, proof-of-design, performance, reliability and safety/listing/approvals standardsExpertise/Experience in all manner of prototyping generated hardware specifications and designs, as well as use of the common tools and instrumentation involved in production for manufacturing/production.Capable of being self driven to succeed at tasks on tight schedulesStrong documentation, communications and project management skillsExperience designing and moving products from inception to production Experience and understanding with product packaging
