Mechanical/Electrical Properties Engineer

We are looking for a hands on self-starter to work as part of an engineering team in a materials development environment. This team is tasked with developing and testing the mechanical and electrical properties of superconducting ceramic / normal metal composite tapes.Individual contributions expected in this role include developing appropriate testing techniques and apparatus, evaluating the electrical and mechanical properties of new products, developing predictive models for these properties and identifying paths for property enhancements.Successful candidates will be able to apply theory to both understand results and analyze design / materials options.

 

Requirements:

 

?  BS or higher in Engineering, Metallurgy, Material Science or related field.

?  Knowledge of techniques and equipment for monotonic and cyclic tensile and compressive testing, as well as theories on mechanical properties.

?  Knowledge of electrical resistance and conductance testing methods and related theories

?  Knowledge of statistical data analysis methods



 



Preferred qualifications:

 

?  Knowledge of ceramics, metals or metal / ceramic composite tapes, films or wires, specifically with regard to their mechanical properties.

?  Knowledge of stress-strain-strength relations, yield and buckling criteria, and residual strain / stress.

?  Demonstrated industrial experience in mechanical testing and materials / product development.

?  Cyrogenic materials testing experience Basic electronics knowledge or experience
