IDS' Mechanical Engineering Directorate (MED) leads in mechanical hardware design, development and production of radar, sonar, torpedo and combat system equipment. Committed to customer satisfaction through hardware design and integration, the MED uses state-of-the-art tools, processes, technologies and Raytheon Six Sigma principles. MED?s capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, manufacturing, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test and documentation.
Mechanical Engineer I
Opportunities currently exist within all the Mechanical Engineering Directorate. MED strives to minimize total systems cost, while maximizing producibility. This is achieved through commitment, training and continuous improvement using common tools and processes. The capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, operations, technical services, materials and processes, analysis and test and documentation. The MED has over 1,100 skilled employees nationwide with facilities in Andover, Sudbury, Tewksbury and Woburn, MA; Portsmouth, RI, McKinney, TX, San Diego, CA, Huntsville, AL and Keyport, WA.
Entry level position into Mechanical Engineering. Mechanical Engineer performs research, design, and development in such areas as mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, thermodynamic, or heat transfer for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development and testing of mechanical and/or electro-mechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines. Opportunities also currently exist within the Materials Engineering department with MED. In this department an engineer designs and conducts research to develop new and improved materials/chemical manufacturing processes. Designs equipment and devises processes for the proper design and application of materials/chemicals in the performance and manufacture of products.

Basic Qualifications
- B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related engineering curriculum
- GPA of 3.0 or higher
Desired Qualifications
- Strong analytical skills
- Engineering Project or Internship experience
- Customer focus and collaboration skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; knowledge of MS Office or other presentation tools
