Summary: Bodycote Livonia is a high volume, automotive heat treat supplier. The equipment used is the
latest in vacuum carburizing technology. The process yields no smoke or flames and requires no oils. The
process is fully automated and presents a clean environment. The Lab Technician position works in a
metalurgical lab performing metalography and sample preparation and inspects heat treated parts. Under
limited supervision, this hourly position may also include shipping and receiving functions, building and
tearing down heat treat loads, documentation of basic process data, and ensures 5S principles are maintained
as part of cross training. Some daily or weekly PM is performed. The position may require the driving of a
lift truck, interface with the vacuum heat treat furnace including loading the automation, and selecting
recipes. This position requires the employee to be highly flexible. Weekend work and shift changes may be
required on short notice. Training is provided.

Shift: First, Second, Third, and Fourth shift positions are available. Third and Fourth shifts only work weekend hours.
Starting Pay: To be negotiated and is based on education and experience.
Requirements (Qualifications & Skills):
♦ Education: Minimum of 1 year towards Associate or Bachelor Degree.
♦ Experience Necessary: 1 to 3 years in heat treating industry preferred. Expierence with cut-off saws,
hardness testing, polishing, and microhardness tester is required.
♦ Should be familiar with Micorsoft Office software applications (Outlook, Excel, and Word)
♦ Language Skills: Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing. English required,
second language prefered.
♦ Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs, sit and stand for prolonged periods, bend, stoop and
climb. Must have 20/20 vision, corrected or not, and work all shifts as required.
♦ Work Environment: Plant is a high volume vacuum heat treat facility. It is clean but not air conditioned.
♦ Must have the ability to work in a team environment and get along with employees of any age, sex, race,
religion or cultural background.
♦ Must have the ability to report for work on time, follow directions, interact effectively with co-workers,
understand and follow rules and procedures and accept constructive criticism.
Essential Job Functions (Duties & Responsibilities):
♦ Review paperwork to verify information and testing to be done.
♦ Prepares parts and equipment for testing procedures.
♦ Conducts testing as required, reporting any non-conformance to manager.
♦ Accurately completes required paperwork and follows through as directed.
♦ Promotes and practices safety and good housekeeping.
♦ Position is 40 hours per week minimum and is subject to overtime.
♦ Performs other tasks as assigned or dictated by position.
