Metallurgist

Job Purpose:

? Reporting to the Director of Engineering in Waukesha, WI and dotted line to the Operations Manager in Walterboro, SC, this position requires a hands-on approach to improving current products and operations, as well as evaluating new materials and processes for the industries served by Castalloy, a leading manufacturer of heat and abrasion resistant steel and iron castings.

Duties:

? Facilitate and assist in metallurgical and manufacturing process improvement.  Must be able to develop and effectively develop and communicate both the technical and business case for the modified or new process.

? Facilitate and assist in defect analysis and reduction efforts stemming from internal and customer driven sources.

? Identify and develop new heat treatment sources for the processing of current and future parts.

? Assist in process documentation and improvement in accordance with ISO guidelines and requirements.

? Assist in the ideation and integration of new products and processes within the facilities.

? Responsible for investigation and documentation of castability and structural properties of existing and future alloys.  Develop the relationship between changes in chemistry and these properties.

? Prepares metallurgical reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends.

? Ensures operation of lab equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer?s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.

? Helps customers by answering technical questions and responding to requests.

? Maintains safe work environment by following organization standards and legal regulations.

? Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, trade shows, and conferences; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks and participating in professional organizations.

Skills/Qualifications:

? Minimum Education Requirement ? Undergraduate degree in Metallurgical or Materials Engineering from an ABET accredited university.

? Three (3) or more years of experience in the metal casting industry is desired but not required. 

? Recent graduates with significant internship or co-op experience will be considered and are encouraged to apply.

? Successful candidates will possess a ?hands-on? attitude as well as the ability to apply advanced and unique concepts theories to existing and potential products.

? Other competencies which will be required of this position are a structured approach to problem solving, good verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
