Mill Supervisor

Job Description

Major Responsibilities:
Under general supervision, supervises, coordinates and controls the safe and efficient operation of an assigned work unit. Utilizes all provided Phelps Dodge resources to promote Zero and Beyond in Safety and Environmental aspects. Performs general operations management tasks including, but not limited to the following:
Assigns, supervises and reviews the work of operating staff on rotating shift for assigned work unit
Implements production plans according to approved schedule
May participate in the full range of daily operational duties
Inspects and evaluates work in progress, identifies any nonconforming area and may direct corrective action
Conducts performance evaluations on subordinate staff
Prepares estimates of the staffing, material and equipment requirements for projected work activities
Approves purchases of materials and equipment, maintains time, material and equipment reports
Requisitions tools, supplies, materials and equipment
Trains staff in safety procedures
Performs other duties as requested
Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma or GED, with strong background and/or training in leadership development.
Five years of related operational experience, including supervisory or lead experience (this requirement may be offset by Bachelor's degree in a closely related field)
Demonstrated knowledge in actively promoting teamwork initiatives
Demonstrated knowledge and application of supervisory methods and techniques
Demonstrated skill in resolving day to day conflict resolution regarding people, equipment, materials, methods and procedures needed to complete projects
Demonstrated knowledge in budget preparation, monitoring and administration
Demonstrated ability to utilize, identify and develop Consequence Thinking Skills by maintaining awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
Demonstrated knowledge and application of Fostering Open Communication by effectively communicating in active and passive methods both orally and in writing
Demonstrated knowledge and application of utilizing Sound Judgment and Decision Making Skills
Demonstrated knowledge and application of utilizing Driving for Results Skills by setting expectations and holding associates accountable to expectations
Demonstrated knowledge and application of utilizing Investing in People Skills by effectively coaching and providing appropriate training opportunities
Demonstrated knowledge and application of Creating Ownership Skills by pushing decision making to the lowest appropriate levels and clearly articulating the Henderson Mill Operation's vision
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated knowledge and application in an ISO Certified Quality System as an auditor
Demonstrated knowledge and application of SPC techniques
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
Work in a mine or manufacturing plant setting which may include exposure to: extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, electricity, chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particulates
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate annual dexterity, climb stairs, and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see
Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.) during the course of the work day
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required when performing work in a mine, outdoors or in a manufacturing plant environment. This PPE includes, but is not limited to; hard hat, hearing protection, eye protection, steel toe shoes, respirator, gloves and other protective equipment as required
