JOB SUMMARY:

The New Product Development Engineer must have the ability to develop new innovative concepts and ideas for residential and commercial markets with emphasis on manufacturability. Provide technical leadership for product development teams. Responsibilities will include developing the processes required for releasing high quality products, coordinating implementation of product release and engineering changes notice, ensuring use of the correct engineering analysis tools and decisions for in-house or suppliers selection with quality & cost effective manner. The key responsibilities of this position are abilities to translate customer needs into specifications, resolve issues related to the design development, and work well with an established new product development team. Mfg. process knowledge (Stamp/Forg/Cast/Powder metal/Screw machine, injection molding) is highly desired.

OBJECTIVES:

Develops initial design concepts. Selects appropriate materials for product. Justifies project through the use of appropriate ROI analysis. Gathers data and conducts analysis for stage-gate decisions. Seeks to fully understand the different design requirements and their relative importance to the customer. Works with sales and marketing to incorporate data about customer preferences. Ensures project design is suitable for cross-functional partners (e.g. marketing, manufacturing) Applies regulatory requirements to design work. Applies principles of FMEA to all designs. Utilizes reliability methodologies and predictability models to predict how product will behave in field. Conducts root cause and failure analysis. Conducts ongoing field performance monitoring for early problem detection. Designs, qualifies and implements technical solutions to all product problems. Evaluates product concept and design with value parameters in mind. When focusing on specific components, ensures entire product maintains appropriately functionality. Balances performance, quality and cost issues to optimize system value to the customer Designs experiments to efficiently evaluate and qualify products and components. Interprets design and qualification testing data and recommends the appropriate course of action.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :

Knowledge & Work Experience:
Clear understanding of manufacturing processes including: Stamping, forging, zinc-diecast, injection molding, powder metal, cold heading, spring and screw, casting (sand and investment). Application and use of assembly methods such as staking, crimping, forming etc. Proven ability to design for the mentioned manufacturing processes and assembly process.

Education & Minimum Years of Experience:
BS Mechanical Engineering, 5-8 years experience in designing for high volume manufacturing

Additional Skills (Computer/Technical):
Microsoft (excel, word, project, powerpoint) Unigraphics and/or Pro-E CAD. FEA analysis tools

Hours of work required: 40+

Physical/Mental requirements:

Lifting: 30 to 50 lbs

Travel % of time? 15-20%
