Position: New Product Sourcing Specialist


Reporting to:  Purchasing, Division Purchasing Manager


Today, my client manufactures high quality products that are used for both residential and commercial applications and operate on a variety of fuels.  They are a leader in their industry.


SUMMARY


Serves as key focal for purchasing on new programs, products and other core team projects.


Identifies and develops sourcing strategies for new programs and products.  Identifies and drives


cost improvements early in a project/programs development to ensure they are


producing the most cost effective programs/products resulting in higher margins. 


 


 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.


 


Supports agreed upon PDP deliverables.


 


Develops and provides solutions for complex purchasing issues, mentors Buyers and Assistant Buyers.


 


Stays up to date on key commodities and develop a commodity newsletter to keep executives and purchasing informed.


 


Resolves and/or escalates critical purchasing/supply issues related to the core teams.


 


Manages new product/programs/projects as it relates to purchasing.


 


Identifies and develops sourcing strategies for new programs and products which will include the financial justifications required by the PDP process.


 


Manages and communicates risks of a program from a purchasing perspective to immediate supervisor and executives as appropriate, this will take the form of a risk analysis document in the early stages of a program


 


Drives program goals in their area of responsibility to help ensure the success of the team


 


Supports engineering by providing sourcing expertise and advise and by attending on site audits for new suppliers


 


Supports new builds by being an active participant in the scheduling and by attending the on site proto-type builds


 


Responsible for identifying cost reduction opportunities and evaluating for feasibility as appropriate


 


Leads materials team meetings for assigned core teams and publishes minutes and timelines for new products, EC generation and coordination on core teams through EC Coordinator.


 


Develops a checklist to ensure a smooth hand-off to volume production.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS: 


Bachelor’s degree (BA) from a four-year college or university in a business related field. 


Minimum of 6 years of experience in purchasing in a manufacturing environment. 


Minimum of 6 years experience in commodity purchases.


Strong working knowledge of computer applications (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, Power point, Project).


Experience in make vs. buy analysis.


Strong analytical and negotiation skills and project management skills.


Experience with MRPII, ERP Systems.


Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


Capable of conducting presentations to high-level executives.


Must be extremely organized with the ability to prioritize multiple projects.


Experience leading cross-functional teams, excellent team member, experience working with a cross functional team in a highly charged fast paced development environment.


Ability to travel.


 


PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS: 


 


 


LANGUAGE SKILLS. 


Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.


 


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS. 


Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, and volume.


 


REASONING ABILITY. 


Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


 


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS. 


CPIM, CPM or APICS certification preferred.
