Occupational Health Nurse

SUMMARY The Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) provides on-call first aid health care for all employees in addition to being a team member to promote health and wellness programs.  This professional will also supervise the Emergency Response Team.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides on-call first aid health care for all employees, in addition to health care

counseling and medical surveillance.
Has in-depth knowledge of the Family Medical Leave Act and administers the program.
Administers the Hearing Conservation Program by conducting yearly hearing tests on all shifts and works as part of a team to maintain the Hearing Conservation Program.  Keeps an accurate record regarding the Hearing Conservation Program.
Works as a member of the Health and Wellness team by coordinating and developing Health and Wellness Programs for the entire company which are cost effective and satisfy employees.
Provides ongoing supervision, guidance and training to the Emergency Medical Organization (EMO).  Develops yearly plan for in-service programs for the EMO.
Promotes and trains the EMO and custodians in the Bloodborne Pathogen Program.
Conducts employment physical assessments for prospective employees as needed.
Oversees the maintenance of medical supplies and safety personal protective equipment and trains employees on proper use.
Has a clear understanding of OSHA requirements as it relates to Safety and Health, and may administer and develop programs as needed.  Understands OSHA recordkeeping and the maintenance and accurate recordkeeping tasks.
Works with the company physicians on site during clinic hours.
Works with Safety and Security to provide on-call service for immediate safety concerns as it relates to health issues.
Assists with Workers? Compensation program through appropriate health monitoring and OSHA and state required recordkeeping.
Provides confidential information for alcohol and drug abuse as it affects employees or their families, as well as health care counseling for other issues.  Refers to the EAP as needed.  Understands the role of the Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
Performs other related duties as required for the efficient operation of the department, or as directed by Supervisor.
Complete BBS training and actively participate in the program.

 

REQUIREMENTS
Must be a professional, registered nurse. 
Certification in Occupational Health Nursing preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate to and communicate with all levels of employees.
Strong computer experience: Excel, Word, and general office duties.
Past Supervisory experience would be helpful but is not required
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Knowledge of NYS Disability benefits, Workers? Compensation law, and certain OSHA laws
Certified in CPR/AED and First Aid
Drug and Alcohol education beneficial
Certified or willing to be certified in the Hearing Conservation Program.
Five years of nursing experience required
Bachelor?s degree would be preferred but is not required.
