PLC Programming Design Engineer

Our client, a developer of high tech security systems, is seeking a seasoned PLC softeare engineer who is looking for a long-term commitment in a stable, challanging and exciting environment.  This position will manage 3 to 6 other engineers.

 

 

Position Summary:

 

The Design Engineer is responsible for the PLC software programming, equipment cabinet design, electrical schematic design, and graphical user interface for a security control system.  This team-oriented position is responsible for the entire development and implementation of the control system with minimal supervision.  Furthermore, the Design Engineer will be required to support both external and internal customers through documentation.  This position is expected to set timelines and meet project goals with little or no supervision.  In addition, the Design Engineer will train company personnel and mentor other engineers.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Work with Project Managers on customer approved submittal drawings and obtain an overall knowledge of the project.  This requires an understanding of the system operation and knowledge of all field installed devices to be interfaced to the company system, including electric locks and door operators to be controlled.
Work with project managers to ensure finance and project schedules.
Determine and achieve engineering goals for projects.
Determine the type of control methods to be used and generated a bill of material for all of the materials and components required for the project
Develop the graphical user interface for the project.
Develop block diagrams and electrical control schematics for all necessary equipment.
Determine equipment cabinet layouts and produce mechanical drawings.
Design the PLC software on the project. Test all functions of the software logic and maintain the software file.  Make changes to the software at any time to suit the customer?s needs.
Organize and maintain an engineering file for the project to ensure information availability for all departments.  This includes revising drawings after fabrication, installation and changes.
Assist in testing the system before shipment to increase quality and diminish rework.
Provide support to the testing department.
Provide support to the field technicians: supply information, hardware changers and software changes as needed.
Assist the drafting department in AutoCAD drawings.
Understand and follow established quality procedures.
Perform peer design reviews.
Other job-related duties as may be necessary to carry out the responsibilities of this position.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

?  Proficient with AutoCAD software.

?  Proficient in PLC ladder logic programming, preferably Omron PLC.

?  Proficient developing applications with Wonderware.

?  Proficient designing control system, preferably PLC based systems.

?  Proficient in designing and setting up DeviceNet.

?  Proficient in using OPC.

?  Proficient in setting up Microsoft based networks and using appropriate network protocols.

?  Experience with Microsoft Office Suite software, such as Word and Excel.

?  Experience installing Microsoft Windows 2000, NT, and XP Operating Systems.

?  Experience installing and troubleshooting computer hardware.

?  In-depth understanding and experience with serial data communications including protocols.

?  Experience programming with VBA.

?  Experience programming with an advance language such as VB or C/C++.

?  Possess good written and oral communications skills

?  Possess good time management skills

?  Possess an associate electronics degree or equivalent experience.

 

Requirements:
7+ years experience in PLC software programming, electrical schematic design and graphical user interface for a security control system.
Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electromechanical Engineering
